Once America is removed from NATO east, Russia’s main problem is going to be China sitting hungry on Russia’s border.
I have always advocated for a strong German leader to exist with Russia. Mr. Putin is a pacifist compared to someone like Mr. Mevedev who is playing the roll of Lindsey Graham as the flame thrower. The Russian leaders were most successful as Germans in Catherine the Great. The Russ lines are Israelite Goth out of Sweden. They are a unique people, but they are civilized and if accommodated in strength, they will behave.
What Mr. Putin has established is a better transitional group than Mr. Brezhnev had. There was nothing for several years but the old guard who are dying off all the time. I do not have the same respect for the second level Russians, the military in point, have not proven outstanding. The Putin core group though is as good as Breznhev’s, with the caveat that if Mr. Putin lasts another decade, they will be old as Breznhev’s group and it will require time for a leadership to again emerge. Do not forget that it was all the Reagan, Bush41 and Clinton years before Vladimir Putin emerged to save Russia. That is over a decade.
