Pole Garden

As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.

I will not  take credit of the genius of this, but this spring a super storm took the roof off of my Grandpa's pole barn, due to some alterations which should not have been done by a resident genius.

So it was sitting there, and around June, I got the God given Inspiration to experiment with it, in if it would work as a sort of Thomas Jefferson Orangarium, This is not a greenhouse in the least, it is a simple metal building with a pole structure, and no roof or enclosure.

My first lesson after planting was a rabbit ate off the greens. I caught the rabbit thinking it was a woodchuck, and let the rabbit go. We then put up more corrugated metal for the "fence" in order to deal with the vegetable predators.

We had allot of rain, lot of wind, lot of heat, and allot of cold, so the garden got beat the hell even with all this protection and looked rough for a few weeks. Even with transplanting by July 15th, this garden really took off. It helped in I forgot to turn the hose off one day and it really saturated the sandy soil.

It has literally filled in the space we planted. I used store bought russets which we never got around to eating due to the weather of winter, and put in collards, honeydew, brussel sprouts, kohlrabi,  watermelon, broccoli, and tomatoes Big Boy, Yellow Cherry and Super Sweet.

Am really thinking for survival garden that I will put up a pole shed like this sans the roof. In northern locations, it increases the heat index each day by volumes. This test plot actually caught up with our garden planted weeks earlier. I am thinking that I will get 6 more weeks growing.......no I will get more rapid maturity than that too, almost get North Texas season I would think.

The shed faced south so the short walls are on the north side which means the sun can penetrate there the longest.

I really hope to be able to either put on clear fiberglass on the roof or leave part of it open or something at least for next year as this is working so well. I should almost be able when it gets frosty to cover it with plastic and form a mini greenhouse in the rabbit panels on the sides.

The only problem is I have run into is these cold frames get so dry as they need rain. So that is why when I build one for survival, I will leave the roof off. This is really a remarkable invention and am surprised that no one has ever built anything like this as the English were into everything in that cold climate and none of this ever appeared.

So that is the Lame Cherry pole garden. Storm tore the roof off an I was left with a God Inspired experiment and it was just cherry.

This is once again another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.
