For some reason Hollywood always gets it wrong in what the public wants. For example, the audience in the Terminator movies were not watching Linda Hamilton, they were watching Arnold Schwarzenegger.
This was the problem with the Sarah Connor Chronicles in FOX based this television series on a scowling, ornery female, who in real life was a scowling, ornery, liberal animal extremist.
As the Sarah Connor Chronicles were aimed at horny young males and females, having the lead a woman who was like your ugly step mother is not going to get viewers to watch.
Within a few episodes, the fabulous Summer Glau who played the Terminator had stolen the show and had redefined the Arnold role in ways which Jolene Blalock on Star Trek, the Spock role which Leonard Nimoy set the standard for with Mark Leonard.
As someone who .......well never mind, but from someone who knows talent, it is very distressing to see two such fabulous women, acting in roles that define the character forever, be wasted on programs with absolute idiot non talent.
The Sarah Connor Chronicles are gone now though as the actors all have new projects and the sets were torn down at Warner Brothers.
I still though would put out there for the fans of Summer Glau, a fix for the series in a re write which would be based on the awful way they ended the series in the Terminator giving her chip to another cyborg named John Henry, so she was "dead".
I mean as a script writer, all one has to do if the Terminator was on a mission to give a chip, was to just have John Connor when he sent the Terminator back, ANOTHER CHIP.
Pretty well solves it.........you go on vacation you take extra underwear, so it is not that difficult in sending a new chip along now is it.
How this writer would fix the show is simple. Get rid of the cut glass females on the set. Kill the mother off and get rid of the Oz talking red head. I'm getting a great deal fed up with these Oz actors and English actors littering American television, because they are there to sell this stuff to British markets.
Do not get me wrong, I love Hugh Laurie on House. I knew him when he was Birdie Wooster on Wooster and Jeeves on PBS.........yes now you know why I call Birdie Obama, Birdie. He sings in the cage like a Tweetie, but Hugh Laurie defined Obama in an air head named Birdie 20 years ago. It is just that I do not care for the manipulation of stick an Ozzie on a program to get it to sell overseas. It is affirmative action and I despise it.
OK, so we get rid of the hags no on wants to cuddle with and replace nutso animal nut chic with Ted Nugent, as a rather bizarre human with robotic parts. He is a scientist who has come back to revive the terminators for another war, this time fought in current times.
Angie Harmon replaces the Oz chica, as an X files type politician who is attempting to stop what is going on, by trying to save the people who the terminators have killed and being there before transport events happen. This will allow her to save Brian Austin Greene as the show killed him off like idiots.
She is the eye candy with muscle that one does want to cuddle up with.
Lastly, kill of the kid John Connor. No one wants to watch a stupid kid, not even stupid kids. Instead bring this back as "not John Connor" as in an older version of John Connor who has come back, the only one who escaped to fight this out.
The personal choice is Tom Selleck, as his brooding nature would fit perfectly and he would represent all people have lost with age. The story would be one of frailty in the Terminator doesn't have the "chip", but only the imprints of the Terminator on the old computer drives.
This makes a Terminator people want to protect as everyone wanted to protect Summer Glau. Make her handicapped and Obama probably won't be making Special Olympics jokes about her.
This will obtain the viewership and a marketable audience across the age range FOX needs. FOX is inhabited by Conservative viewers, so give them the actors they already love.
No sex, no Jimmy Carter insane politics, but just vulnerability in an old John Conner who has lost part of the human in him, seeks salvation in the Terminator who was becoming more human than humans, in teaching him to be human again.The series will work.......and for goodness sake you idiot writers, shooting cyborgs with guns is just stupid. Ever heard of a massive taser to short circuit the things?
If you can't find someone to write, at least find someone to troubleshoot as the gaping holes open up wonderful story opportunities.
You had a wonderful series and then alienated the entire audience with making a psycho the lead.
Fix it and bring it back correctly done.
