Land of the Lust

I had no plan on going to see Will Ferrell in Land of the Lost which is now reported as Land of the Lust in this Obama sex crazed age, because I had naively thought in previews that Ferrell had only ruined it by trying to make a comedy out of a delightful program which honestly was all children had to inspire them besides Star Trek reruns in the late 1970's.

This is a tribute to those less jaded times in which Sid and Marty Krofft created a television series which is even profound by today's standards.

For those who never watched the series, the Koffts created a drama in which a father with his two children on a scientific expedition got caught in the Land of the Lost, by an earthquake.
It was a genius written program, because it was all focused on the attempts to get back to America. The most telling episode was when they had built their raft to leave by the river they came, and then they found the river ran in a circle.

There were missing link creatures, dinosaurs, lizard creatures, skylons and pylons using crystal technology to control the entire Land of the Lost universe.
It all formed a web of adventure, fringe science and discovery in a bitter sweet drama which held viewers of all ages.

The Kroffts even created a character named Enoch who was a genius, but of the Slestak or the lizard creatures which prowled the lost city. Enoch too had his land of the lost in it was finally revealed to him, that he had not evolved from the Slestak, but that the lizard people were his future in devolution.

Crystals which when combined could produce radiation, extremely bright light or explosions were just the thing to dazzle young scientific minds.

There was even two pretty good musical scores which the Kroffts produced and I happened to re record in a really out of this world techno song much like they did with Dr. Who.

It saddens me that people would sex up Land of the Lost, but in this age of Letterman constantly verbally raping women in the Sarah Palin family, what is left by the cheap shot at anything for gain.

A good writer could have constructed a great script in which Will Ferrell could have broken out of his nitwit comedies and actually been something that would have touched the world. Land of the Lost was Space 1999, Star Trek, Red Dwarf and Dr. Who combined, all with Gilligan's Island and Leave it to Beaver morals and sweetness.

Sex is the cheap shot like violence which inept producers, directors, writers and actors resort to when they have no script. It takes someone like Mel Gibson to script as never done before, continuous violence to do it right and actually beyond even what the great Sam Pekinpah did in The Wild Bunch.

I do not go to movies any more. The last good movie coming out of Hollywood which was scripted and directed perfectly was True Lies starring Governor Arnold. It is better to waste time on PBS Masterpiece Theater as they at least do it correctly unless one has a video library of classic television or films.

Somehow in me I'm still in denial that Bob Denver is supposed to be alive as young Gilligan shouldn't die and Sulu shouldn't be a pervert giving gays a bad name.

Strangely the overtly sexual Barack Obama's story of pedophile predators, jungle lust mummy, using white ho's, jumping the ugly black Chicago chic and having your cigar smoked by gay males is covered up by the media, but instead in this liberal Letterman sextravaganza it is children who are the sex objects in jokes and film, making it all a land of the lust.
