Million Dollar Knowledge
I have been working on something in sprouting vegetables as I have a difficult time with it in something called a cold house.
Is the reason I do not like tomatoes in sprouting them, as I go through non sprouting, then some sprouting, then the seed hulls stick on the leaves, and I have to do surgery birthing them with a needle and tweezer......all just is bad, along with sprouting soil drying out.
I did use plastic wrap as that was the genius way of doing things .......and it sucks as much a pilot lights.......as my water heater is in an old root cellar and I hate crawling around in that spider hole just to try and sprout my seedlings on it as was the genius way of doing it.
This season I'm trying something Inspired. I got out of the junk store a passel of plastic food containers, not so cheap, but they are tall........like sherbet containers you get along with sherbet.
That is probably a hint on a container, which I have put my plastic drinking cups in with holes poked in the bottom for drainage, so when I planted my tomatoe seeds, the main plastic container is covered with a lid, that is not plastic wrap falling off and being a nuisnace.
As I'm running one of those copper core electric heaters called Eden Pure I got on a sale, that is where the container is now sitting as the bugs sit there too as it seems quite balmy.
Main point in this million dollar lesson, is by God I have now advanced seed sprouting for all you children to a controlled environment, which is easy to check as the plastic container is clear and nothing to muss up the works.
I have in my trial here three varieties of open polinated tomatoes. First is Big Boy, the old favorite that I think is what a tomatoe should taste like, as they taste "green" and fresh. I hate that musty cellar Brandywine disgusting flavor.
Next up is a 1940's variety called Table Talk from Burpees. Have no idea about it, but just was drawn to try it.
I have grown Rose which is late but wonderful in fruity and sweet. Done the Black Krim and like that melded flavor of many tomatoes. Azoykcha is a yellow Russian that honestly smelled cistrusy in the plants when I played with them.......just do not have the time now in things.
I came across a Rio Roma that was a very good paste tomatoe......yeah I spell it with an E for the assholes fixating on that tomatoE thing, as not all English is fucking liberal American English.
Rio by God, I grew a Swedish variety of German Strawberry and it crossed, and tha is my 3rd tomatoe I'm attempting to stablilize in this large variety of Roma. Of course, it has to grow as satan has done damage in ruining things for two years.
Main point is, this plastic container containing cups should get things off to a vigorous start, at which time I will transplant my babies to individual trays, feed them with some non stinky fish emulsion, and about the time I'm ready to get rid of them, the garden should be ready for them to make their summer home.
Now you have million dollar knowledge to save you lots of problems and headaches and heartaches. Little seeds can not dry out in big containers while sprouting and if you pay attention no mold is going to be damping them off.............some horse or cow crap tea......that is manure soaked in water for a few days, will also help in protecting the plants.
Lots of million dollar knowledge and all stolen so freely.
Enough of the lesson, as I will know by the time this posts how great this has all worked out. Is really nice to see my little plants sitting in a sunny window......which of course one is careful in windows get cold and can freeze little plants in cold houses and of course hot sun can scald plants in drying them out quickly too..........like you pay attention to baby and not leaving them for days in not checking them, you have to check on the plants in the window for light too or they get leggy in the dark and fall over.
More million dollar knowledge to feed my children.
