Chrysops perhaps

I was thinking about Predator, the movie, as I suspect something which fascinates me.

Years ago during a wet cycle, my Mom was bitten by some bug that left this half dollar sized welt which was raised about a quarter of an inch. She was going to visit her sister in Missouri, and when she got there, she got sick, threw up and was not feeling so well for a day.

I happened to be going for a walk with shorts on, and I felt something sort of bite me or sting me and I just brushed at it, and did not see the insect, but I got the same results in a welt, that literally swelled up and had a fever to it.

Apparently being what this insect liked, it bit me in my garden, but as I brushed it, I happened to catch sight of it as a sort of fury thing in a brownish color, before I had a like reaction my Mom had.
This time I did a stupid thing and washed it like I do mosquito bites in hot water with soap, and then rubbed it with alcohol, as that for me seems to stop the bites if I do it early enough.
All it accomplished was spreading the venom so I got a bigger welt and it spread into my body which reacted with fever and aches.

As it has been dry since, I have not seen these bugs, and assumed it was some damn foreign bug that somehow got into America through shipping or someone dumped it...........but as I have had a deluge here in over 5 inches of rain, I noticed something today.

I was milking a doe in an outdoor shed, and my Em who is not doing very good, came over as that is where I have her separated out, and she was visiting me, as I used to hold her as I typed here as a kid and she was adament about not allowing me to type as she wanted all the attention.

I looked down and noticed this fly on her. I know deer flies and have seen them on the goats, and I know horse flies and have killed them too, but this thing was biting her, but it seemed to have that glimpse impression of that venomous fly I had experienced before.
I swatted at it, and of course it was intelligent and flew before I could hit it. It then appeared on her ankel so I took my hat off and swatted at it.......missed again I thought, until it appeared again on her back, and I did a little laying on of the palms and killed that cursed thing a bit too dead.
I was surprised in it killed easy as I rolled it and it was kind of wet, and there was not enough of it to study.

I wonder what this thing is, that only like Predator did in appearing in dry cycles, that this thing appears when it is wet.

It is midsized between a deer and horse fly. For some reason has a brown fuzzy look, but not when dead. Then it looks like any dead house fly.

I know deer flies have venomous bites as have had them. This thing though is beyond the worst things known to inflict in insect bites. It amazes me as I have never heard anyone ever record this damn thing.
I call it now the Cherry Fly as it likes biting me. I puzzle over it as it does not draw blood like a buffalo gnat, but it has that same look in being poisonous, but magnified to a 100 times reaction.
There are allot of biting flies, horn flies, blow flies, but this thing is a plague as I could not imagine someone having to try and deal with several of these bites at once, as one will make a person ill, and several would seem to put a person into the emergency ward.

A biting fly, between a horse and deer fly, that only appears in the wet seasons. It has a noxious bite of a very toxic venom. Where it came from I do not know, but it seems to be able to survive extreme cold, but disappear in dry cycles.

That is the wonder for this as I will do a quick search for a biting fly between a horse and deer fly to try and figure this out, as this thing is unheard of in it's toxic bite, and I know it is something recent as the West Nile as no one in historical documents ever mentioned this thing.

I do know that my level of the ground did not have chiggers when I was growing up, buffalo gnats nor deer ticks and now this menace is frequent along with a little light brown sliver bug that bites like hell, then there is that little black beetle with yellow markings on it that shows up in the autumn and bites like hell.
This stuff has been showing up more and more, along with new bugs eating alfalfa for my neighbor that was never heard of here before.

It seems to be of the CHRYSOPS genus in a yellow fly. It really does not matter as I just want this vermin dead, extinct and wiped out. The weapons lab ever get this thing bred, and it would disable entire populations in it being so toxic.

I really like wearing shorts and it pisses me off about all of this. Bad enough about the mosquitos, but this thing just is like walking around with snipers around.

Nothing like being the discoverer of a toxic fly.
