The Fear of the Lord

This is posted in response to the Viking in something he mentioned in passing about his Babygirl, as she had saw a rapper with a tattoo which said Fear God.

Odd in the Bible forbids tattoos in marking the skin, and a rapper has this imprinted on their skin. The wisdom of the ignorant is justified by her children as  Jesus noted.

I think I posted on Fear of the Lord, but it is a good reminder as this puzzled me a great deal as a teenager as I could not figure out how being terrified of God existed, as I have never been afraid of God and never will be as He is the best place for any person to be.

A better word than  FEAR in Olde King James English would be RESPECT, as the answer to this is in the Proverbs of King Solomon.
Chapter 8 verse 13 explains it all;

The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

Fearing God is to hate evil, and to love the good.

The good is summed up in the Attributes of God. In Martin Luther Reformation, there is a list taught which I was required to memorize, but being a long list I had problems with it, until my Mom came up with an anagram of it in HOME OF JOB UG.

Each letter is an Attribute of God. God is:

Holy

Omniscient: all knowing

Merciful

Eternal

Omnipresent: always present

Faithful

Just

Omnipotent: all powerful

Benevolent

Unchanging

Gracious

While a person can not be all powerful, all knowing or always present, and we need to change to grow to better perfection, we can sum up the teachings of the Commandments in Obeying God and showing that obedience in Caring for other people.
If people have hurt us, we can still care for them in turning the situation over to God, and God will Judge them and find the best solution.

The Proverbs list then the benefits of Respecting God in listening to and obeying Him. Sin is purged by caring and Truth, and by respect of God, people depart from evil.

Respecting God brings Wisdom, Life and Prosperity. That is what the Proverbs teach and it is easily seen in the people with the best quality of lives, are the people who respect God.
Even if people are poor, when they respect God, they have that peace which wealthy people can not obtain in their lives are always turmoil.

Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

Proverbs 15:16

It honestly would be better if these Covenant breakers would be terrified of God, but when this uncivil society rewards immoral misbehavior with large sums of money, trust in police state protection, medical services and lavish lifestyles, they are not capable in being so rich in learning a lesson, which in time is going to catch them on a deathbed and in all probability a sentence they have chosen in hell.

I do not offer carte blanche to the article which the Audrey Hepburn photo was found in Google search, but a study in modesty on Biblical fact as laid out by St. Paul is a reality in respecting God, for if one respects oneself, they will respect God.
As this was about Respect for God, I only include the latter out of due use respect of photo.
