Hurricane of October 6th, 1780

As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter...........

I enjoy weather in the historical context and during War for Independence, the British journals of naval officers contain the recording of an event which seems staggering even by modern hype.

Lord Rodney who was in command of the West Indian British fleet, returned from New York on December 6th,  1780. The British had just gained possession by battle the following season of most of the Carribeans Seas. What Rodney found though was amazing for he wrote that ""The most beautiful island in the world has the appearance of a country laid waste by fire and sword."

The term "hurricanes" is used in Captain Mahan's description, but we do not know for certain if this was a series of storms or one massive storm, but it is evident the storms were all Category 4 or 5 in intensity.

The list of islands destroyed was Santa Lucia and Jamaica, and the smaller leeward islands. The British West Indian fleet was smashed in having only 9 ships which perhaps could sail.

I make mention of this, as this was a horrendous set of storms and they had absolutely nothing to do with being manmade. They were simply nature unleashing pent up atmospheric fury due to the conditions.

It appears also in that year that while God was set in taking America from the British, he was busy giving the British the West Indies and a world empire secured.

Do you ever think for the past weather ripping up America, that God is busy now taking America away from the Americans, as they have abandoned God?
