A Matter of Faith

I have always said it is a fiction being a Christian when one has money and the love of a smiling clergy, but real Christians only are those who submit to God after the worst of situations.

Davy Crockett the American hero was jilted rather severely in love twice. The first time he fell for a girl he learned was already engaged, and the second he got engaged to and she decided to marry behind his back days before his wedding someone else.
The third was a girl who had another beau, but preferred Davy, although her Irish mum raised a royal hell over it, in not wanting Mr. Crockett to be her son in law.

It was this girl who Crockett married and they had 3 children together, upon which she died.

"It is a scene long gone by, and one which it would be supposed I had almost forgotten; yet when I turn my memory back on it, it seems as but the work of yesterday.

It was the doing of the Almighty, whose ways are always right, though we sometimes think they fall heavily on us; and as painful as is even yet the remembrance of her sufferings, and the loss sustained by my little children and myself, yet I have no wish to lift up the voice of complaint.

I was left with three children; the two oldest were sons, the youngest a daughter, and, at that time, a mere infant. It appeared to me, at that moment, that my situation was the worst in the world."

Davy Crockett. A Narrative of the Life of David Crockett, of the State of Tennessee

All the hardships Davy Crockett experienced in his life, and did not even as Job lift up his voice in complaint, but trusted the doings of God were always right.

It is hard for anyone to do that when the worst of things happen over and over again. It is all that one can ever do is just turn things over to God and then trust in Faith in a God Who knew more than a person ever will.
