Just for Me
As I never get to write about things I especially like, but instead have only a glimpse in striving to teach and inform for your lives on every subject, I am going to write something just for me, in what my ideal life would be.
It would be a small ranch by a creek with a spring. The hill would have my home, a dug out with TL, and a place of wood and stone, with heavy shutters for protection, but allot of windows for light. It would be a home of solar absorption and a system of electric, wood and whatever for keeping warm.
Outside would be our garden, a thing of melons, root cops and cucumbers. By the stream in a hollow would be our fruit orchard of apples, sweet cherries and peaches.
I will have diverted the spring to a cistern to water our home and our plants and livestock.
The stream would be dammed, and it would have in it, bluegills, catfish, walleyes, perch and some large mouth bass. A large round bale would sit in it's pools so Canada geese and mallard hens would sit upon it to raise their little ones.
There would be a barn made of straw to keep the animals warm, each would have their nook from the cows, horses, sheeps, goats, mules, llamas, hogs and whatever else would seem to delight me, as I would have miniature Jersey milk cow and still the lines of a few cows my parents had for beef.
I would have plantings of heirloom corn, wheat and oats. Not large, but ample to have more than a surplus, as I had the old machinery to run my old teams of mules to gather it all in.
I already have my 12 foot fishing boat sitting there on flat tires, but they would be fixed, as much as two tractors to cultivate the garden, scoop things and blow snow. I always wanted an old Henry Ford tractor just to have around.
I would have two flat bottom john boats or duck boats, 8 feet long, for waterfowl hunting and for gathering in elk or moose. They would have electric motors and we could sleep in them as our home upon the waters during a hunt.
For guns, I of course would need an arsenal to fit TL and myself. I dearly desire some muzzle loading shotguns, 10 and 12 gauge. As I have my lovely 870 magnum in 12 gauge, that is all I need, but I do need for TL and myself a few 16 gauges as they are a delight to hunt with, perhaps some diminuative 28 or 410 in a double too, for all the bird hunting we would eat.
Then there would be the rifles, which I do have, but in addition there would be a Remington Rolling Block in 45 70, a Winchester in 45 90, a 760 Remington pump like my beloved Uncle had in 270, of course a pump 223 for the light stuff, and a 300 Savage, a 348 Winchester, and an assortment of Ruger Bearcat pistols in 22 to a Colt 45 on a Ruger Blackhawk frame.
The mules of course would pack, and the horses would be ridden on outings and huntings. There would be a Whelen leanto for us to sleep in, and our bags would be buffalo robes to sleep in.
I dearly lust after a wool poncho, as much as a buckskin poncho as another layer, along with some Rocky mountain boots, as much as my knapsacks I have to carry my possibles along.
There would be more of those Norland belt axes, and our knives already on display.......I do have somethings, but not all the things that I need to have God acquire for us yet.
Home would be furniture we had built, as much as what TL designed for the interior. There would be a soapstone fireplace and our collection of cast iron cooking things. It is a strange thing, but nothing cooks anything like fish or chicken better than cast iron and either lard or an original corn oil.
We would have chickens, guineas, turkeys, quail, geese, ducks and things I will know which will appear. It would all be ringed with live traps and snares to protect everything, as we killed our way to safety.
There would be trees planted of mulberry, buffalo berry and hackberry, to make the birds happy for the feast, with plum trees, lilacs and nanking cherries, as the bees would require their nectar for honey after those fragrances wafted to please us.
I see a porch for us, by the grill, with a fire burning in it on chill nights to watch the stars and just be thankful for all God has provided.
This may not be what is Paris to anyone, nor power nor money, but it is with health, enough wealth and Wisdom, with TL all I would require to make me content as we waited Christ's return.
TL would surprise me with the things TL adores and I would adore them too as people need that in someone else to enjoy things they would never really think about to enjoy.
At least we live in Faith, as I started some apple seeds in the fridge, and I think they are progressing in looking in this cold year for a bit of warmth in a summer to grow in. I doubt the people who own the land I am asking for would appreciate my planting the trees on it. Probably think it was forward of me.
