For all the nuances of American English, the French is I think even more complicated, almost like German in gender words for things like "sacred". I found it fascinating the history of Scared Blue and how the black robes had such and still to have such control of even a people who left the religion far behind.
I do not understand the context of the young Quebecois using tabernacle and wafer as curse words, but then I was not stuck in a priestly position as candle lighter. I always wanted to visit Quebec for the hunting and fishing. I like the people in the rural areas as I like most rural people. They have no axe to grind and killing things for food tends to keep you grounded in a German Blood and Soil mentality.
Sacré Bleu, literally “Sacred Blue”, is basically a swear expression that originated in France, usually used as an exclamation of surprise, pleasant or not. It’s not an insult per se. Its equivalent in English would be “Holy crap”, that kind of idea. It comes from the catholic term “Sacré Dieu”, literally translated “Holy God”. Of course you’re not supposed to use God’s name to swear, so “Bleu” (blue) replaced “Dieu”, being a very similar word in pronunciation. In Quebec, it’s usually written in one word and without the accent, as “Sacrebleu”, and is really only used by old people now. The younger generations still use catholic religious profanities to swear, but tend to use “Tabarnak” (tabernacle) and Osti (“host” as in communion wafer). As it is an expression, it is grammatically invariable, so it would always be spelled “Sacré Bleu” or “Sacrebleu”, whatever the gender of what is applies to.

I can understand the reasoning of the Catholic base in swearing. Francis Parkman in his history of Canada, explained that the Monarchy and Black Robes controlled the French settlements. France was more forward thinking in homesteads in they did not use sections of land, but strips of land. Meaning you got a piece of property which was on a river or lake, it went back from there for wood then you had the grass, then the farmland, so each farm was self sustained. Illinois had a settlement there for French and they were quite content. You can find the French who escapes from the clutches of Paris and the Vatican leaving their names all over Illinois, Wisconsin Minnesota and South Dakota. They were the modern settlers of the interior.
The French rule like now is despotic. In the Old Regime, Paris sent out gold coin, which all went into the hands of the ruling few. That is where you get the expression of "two bits" as coins were so rare that they had to cut them into pieces. I have warned you before that commerce in America did not just happen. What is being destroyed now, is not going to restart again that easily. It took from 1607 at Jamestown and other settlements to 1814 in American independence for Yankee Traders to open up real trade. Before that there were rum runners to the West Indies, as everything was imported and America only exported beaver pelts.
So the dictatorship of Tyrant Trudeau is the threat to America. He is the curse word for all the evils which are tyranny and despotic. He is Plein de Trudeau, instead of merde.
