As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.
I dearly adored my woodshop teacher in he changed me from someone that wood fought against to a craftsman that would would mould to my will. He had standards though like I wanted to build a dresser out of Mahogany and he said, "NO THAT IS SOFT WOOD", so I chose Birch as Walnut was expensive.
He told me that glue joints were stronger than wood. Well the other night I heard a crash and a mirror frame I had glued in the miter joints let loose and that was another lesson on glue.
So I got it apart, knew the Birch would splinter as it is hard as steel, and in the end I pre drilled holes and found that I had to counter sink the screw tops as that would splinter too.
I was not paying 4 bucks for one bit, so used a close bit, and only drilled half way so the threads would bite the wood.
I had picked up in the metro a ratchet drill for cabinetry and had used it from time to time and I liked it. So I was drilling the small holes first as the Birch was sticking the bit.......I pulled back and about the 5th time this happened, something happened very quickly in I felt a tearing in my thumbnail on the left side and looked down to see blood.
I shook it off and went on working as I had to get this thing done as was working outside and it was going to get beastly hot.
I wondered after a bit why the bottom of my thumb was bloody, and wiped it off and kept on and then noticed that a little blood spurt was coming out.. Reasonable deduction was I had not just scratched the thumbnail, but had in a really smooth move, probably ramped up with hate and demons acturally in an instant pre drilled all the way through my thumb.
I have never done that before.
Kind of hurt in having a drill bit go all the way through your thumb.
I got the blood off again, put a bandade on with salve and finished the project.
I heal pretty fast thank God and I appear not to have left Birch wood dust in there so should be good to go as we spent the day sorting scrap metal with JYG with no adverse affects.
Anyway, I do not recommend drilling holes all the way through body parts. That probably needs stating now in a world of idiots.
