So I looked the dude up because Shimatsu is either ignorant of what this sand is that is being used out of China or he is playing coy for his many reasons as those Japanese are not only sexy but sly.

The key words in this biomass sand which Shimatsu mentioned and never explained is lignocellulose, you will remember lignite coal as a type, we are talking about CARBON, gee coal is a carbon concentrate. As the Doc is not using "activated charcoal" as that is the base filter, not using lignite coal, he is using a bio waste product in rice hulls for the cellulose filter.
They then alter this carbon with sulfur, nitrogen, silver and ferrocyanide
The Altai Mountains must have a natural sand which includes charcoal, and the four main ingredients above.

What Shimatsu was rambling on about, is there are ways to control radioactive release as in Iran bombing strikes and that would translate here, that there is a way to, enhance a protection on your home zone, to deal with fallout in a nuke cloud, up to a point. It would be possible to decontaminate a rather large garden size area to feed yourself.
I had no idea there was a bio salt mixture which would perform this. The Doc is quite a genius in having come across this and is putting it into action in the K stan.
