It was not an order -- just a request

As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.

I found this George Patton amusing as when his boss, General Marshall asked him, not others, to check on a French woman who had opened her home to General Marshall in World War I, General Patton in the midst of fighting the Reich, had an afternoon with the woman as only George Patton could.

Madame Jouatte and do something for her. Patton’s idea of doing something for her was to draw up a two-and-a-half-ton truck full of food, which was very scarce in France at the time, and unload it at Madame Jouatte’s. He then had an armored regiment parade by Madame Jouatte’s window while he and Madame Jouatte reviewed the parade from the window. Mrs. Marshall was delighted to meet Madame Jouatte, as she had often heard General Marshall speak of the months in which he lived in this house in World War I.

I found this endearing as in Operation Torch, Marshall picked that old warhorse Patton to carry out the mission. Patton told him it would not work as he needed more. Marshall cut orders that sent Patton back to the base in California. Three days later, Patton sent a telegram to Marshall.

I have thought over that stupid plan and I can make it work.

Marshall read the telegram and grinned and said to his aide, "That is how you handle General Patton".

Again, for all the hell Patton got and being ostracized, General Marshall did not contact General Omar Bradley or anyone else. He contacted George Patton as he knew Patton would get it done and get it done in Patton fashion.

Yes 7000 pounds of food for an old lady in France and the a military parade with George Patton presiding.
