The Nigger slang cool. If I asked where it arose, you would probably think from the 50's or 60's, but in Carl Sandberg's history of Lincoln at war, I found the word cool being used in 1864 AD in the year of our Lord.
All of this does fascinate me, as history would have us believe that the beatniks and hippies were the originators of slang we are still using today, but this stuff was in use 100 years before the pot heads were in vogue.
