The Port Side

In another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.......

In reading the tale of the Cachalot, a whaler out of New Bedford, Massachusetts........yes I know how prim and above the rest of two legged animals those leftists in the northeast are, but every time you look at those holier than though types, just know that those leftist enclaves were all built by trading opium and rendering whale oil.
All of those great families who are above the common mortals all made profit and fortune exploiting the world in what they now term the "most heinous ways". Odd how it is still their banks laundering dope money in the 21st century and whatever exotics from child porn to war trade.

I digress....

What I desired in this was to share the words of an Arab, sans England to the shores of America who was in employ on the Cachalot who noted the following:

I had been used in English ships to considerable variety of nationality; but here were gathered, not only the representatives of five or six nations, but 'long-shoremen of all kinds, half of whom had hardly ever set eyes on a ship before! The whole space was undivided by partition, but I saw at once that black men and white had separated themselves, the blacks taking the port side and the whites the starboard.

Amazing and mind blowing it is it not, in here we have an American ship, and in it were not African slaves, but free blacks inside America who were in employ equally with whites, and not down on the plantation in the South picking cotton, but on a whaler cruising the world making money.

I bring this up at times, to expose minds to the Truth that blacks in America have been free in America for a number of years and in number before the Civil War. There was a constant supply emancipated by owners or purchased by people who disliked slavery and the slaves were informed, that if they worked off their purchase price they would be freed.
In reality, a 500 dollar slave, working at 20 dollars per month, could make themself free a little over 2 years.
It was not all runaways or the underground railroad. Free blacks populated America and were in such numbers that in a fleet of whaling ships, there were numbers of them who were on board ships.

The blacks on the whaling ship were immigrants as the story states from Portuguese Western and Canary Islands. Blacks coming to America not as slaves or in fear of slavery in landing in America, but for employment.

"though undoubtedly brave and enterprising, they are cruel and treacherous, and in positions of authority over men of Teutonic or Anglo-Saxon origin, are apt to treat their subordinates with great cruelty."

Frank T. Bullen. The Cruise of the Cachalot Round the World After Sperm Whales

Stereotypes of Toby down on the Mississippi mud beatin' his feat are not the black experience. The propaganda is about slaves, but one never comes across the stories of the free blacks actually working. Even in the Afroid community it is always about "the slave ancestors" and never is spoken the reality of, "Yes my father was free in 1790 and working on ships......."
That kind of story just gains no political power as what good is a black who has been freer than most whites out of Germany who existed as slaves of the state into the late 1800's.

So now you have that for the brain files, filed away. The white men were on starboard and the black men were on port side.

Odd how Martin King never seemed to mention those free blacks doing an honest says work.

Oh and before we leave this little minstrel show let us visit this passage again.

"On board ship, especially American ships, the first requisite for a sailor who wants to be treated properly is to "show willing," any suspicion of slackness being noted immediately, and the backward one marked accordingly.

I had hardly reached the deck when I was confronted by a negro, the biggest I ever saw in, my life. He looked me up and down for a moment, then opening his ebony features in a wide smile, he said, "Great snakes ! why, here's a sailor man for sure! Guess thet's so, ain't it, Johnny?"

What is this? A black man on board ship and on deck, but what could this black be doing there? Let us finish the little ditty out.

I said "yes" very curtly, for I hardly liked his patronizing air; but he snapped me up short with "yes, SIR, when yew speak to me, yew blank lime-juicer. I'se de fourf mate ob dis yar ship, en my name's Mistah Jones, 'n yew, jest freeze on to dat ar, ef yew want ter lib long'n die happy. See, sonny."

I SAW, and answered promptly, "I beg your pardon, sir, I didn't know." "Ob cawse yew didn't know, dat's all right, little Britisher; naow jest skip aloft 'n loose dat fore-taupsle."

"Aye, aye, sir," I answered cheerily, springing at once into the fore-rigging and up the ratlines like a monkey, but not too fast to hear him chuckle, "Dat's a smart kiddy, I bet."

My, my, my, here we not only have a black American on deck, but here is one of the mates as in an officer, and big black man at that......and this big black man is not only a big black man, but a big bastard and a big racist.

Yes no shufflin' in that for the stereotype, but here was a free black exhibiting the worst sort of feudal plantation lordship in treating underlings badly and insulting them.

Odd things we find in real history, and it makes one wonder if the term "uppity nigger" might just have a basis for it, in blacks in number when they gained power positions treated other people worse than any white overseer did with a whip.

But we do not want the Oprah Obama history clouded as we have all these designer negro types to set Chris Matthews legs a tingling in the fiction of black reality in America.

never a nuff said on this........
