People have all heard of Thomas Paine, and few have ever read his Common Sense or The Crisis articles he penned. That is a loss to the ignorant, as Mr. Paine in his letter to Lord Howe, shows a remarkable gift for running psychological operations in threatening that King George III should watch his own head as he had political forces in England who might just take it easily, and the Americans might assist them.
This is the quote:
"A few thousand men landed in England with the declared design of deposing the present king, bringing his
ministers to trial, and setting up the Duke of Gloucester in his stead, would assuredly carry their point , while you are grovelling here, ignorant of the matter. As I send all my papers to England, this , like Common Sense, will find its way there; and though it may put one party on their guard, it will inform the other, and the nation in general, of our design to help them."
Again another one of those hidden treasures in history which is not noted by the always experts as they are too dense to comprehend what Thomas Paine was threatening, in the genius he was.
The bloody trail of Valley Forge, the gang rape of American women, the burning of wide sections of Americans states, the retreats, all took place, but there was also an American writer playing political head games with the government of England and producing a reality that the Americans would back the Duke of Gloucester as the real King of England.
