Flush
My children, this does not matter, but while everyone is familiar with poker, in the various forms of 5 Card Stud, most have no idea what is the order of a winning hand.
For example does a Full House beat a Straight Flush?
In that, I am going to list the order of winning hands, and yes you can stipulate before play, that if all players have crap, that for example Spades lead, Diamonds, Hearts and Clubs or whatever in the high face card or highest card wins the hand if only singles prevail.
The lowest hand is to the highest in:
1 pair of cards of the same number or face.
2 pair of cards of the same number or face.
3 of a kind.
A Straight or cards of any suit in a five number sequence.
A Flush or cards of all the same suit in any order.
Full House or 3 of a kind with a pair.
Four of a kind of the same number or face.
Straight Flush, cards in a five number sequence of the same suit.
Royal Flush or five cards in the same suit of the face cards.
Poker can be a winning living as Doc Holiday and Richard Nixon proved. You simply have to bet only on sure hands and then fold or not gamble on long odds. For example if you have an 8, 9, Jack and Queen of clubs with a 2 of diamonds. The odds are against that you are going to draw that 10 of clubs, because in 52 cards in a deck, with 4 people playing, there are already 20 cards gone.
That leaves you 1 in 32 chance at the best of drawing that 10 if it is still in the deck. If you factor in three other players, plus the original 4 hands drawn, there is a 224 chance against you of getting that card.
Richard Nixon was told that you can win at poker in only betting on sure hands, which means hands that you already have at least a pair in, and have a chance at drawing other cards to build on your odds.
Cards run in streaks and in playing them in computer games designed to have you win, you can indeed win, and you can indeed lose 30,000 dollars in a very short space of time.
I enjoy entirely the story of Jimmy Carter's biggest cinematographer in Mr. Jennifer Garner or better known as Ben Afleck. He validates himself in thinking he can play with the big boys in gambling and it was let out that Mr. Jen lost his ass to a better player.
That is something you can always play on in poker in there are always suckers playing the game in trying to keep up or got their little testicles on the table being suckered in, in trying to keep up. That is how you win, it is also how you get angry twatzikas trying to hurt you in not liking to lose.
Casinos do not like players who know how to play, such as counters who play the odds. The thing is though that counters get beat too and can lose a bundle just because cards do run in streaks.
Most of us are not going to be like the cowboy out in Vegas who walked into a casino one night, and put one bet on roulette and it came out, and he walked out with something like a hundred thousand. Obviously he had a preminition of that and it paid off, but as much a casino is not going to allow people to just walk out with that kind of win.
It is why the booze and steaks are cheap in casinos, to keep people losing money as the odds are always with the house. Some games the odds are really stacked against you as in roulette, and then craps and then blackjack. Granted you get in a game with the Angels rolling them bones or moving that marble and you will win, but that is rare.
I leave this off at that, as the say is rainy and people do need to know what beats what, even if you can play poker for years and never see a straight and a royal flush is something no one ever sees.
