The First Commandment is the foundation upon which all the other Commandments are based. Yet it is the one most frequently violated.
It is simple and to the point, and Martin Luther instead of explaining why we should only honor God first, provides a lengthy resume of God, in why He should be honored. This may sound as the same, but in Luther, it requires Faith that God exists, while the other of why we should only honor God first is a matter of belief.
St. Paul teaches in the Romans, that all of us, know there is a God, because we are born knowing right from wrong, and knowing shame in doing wrong.
As we progress in life, nature herself expresses God exists in many manifestations in the phases of the moon from dark to full, waxing and waning is the life of all people. The moon in science is something which can not be, for it was too big for the earth's gravity to entrap, and yet there it hangs in the heavens, and at the precise distance so in eclipse it always has the perfect halo of the sun.
It is all a matter of Faith and it is all a matter of Belief in honoring God. No one can deny that God does exist for they know it inside. The denier would not be so adamant in the denial if they did not believe there is a God they will have to face.
The First Commandment
Thou shalt not have any other gods before Me.
Q. What does this mean?
A. We must fear, love, and trust God more than anything else.
God's attributes are encompassing of a most extraordinary being. The Bible reveals that humans are created in the image of God. God is a Spirit while humans are the soul incubator of flesh to which His Spirit is sown to make them eternal. It is miraculous to contemplate how a Being the size of us, could create a universe and yet have such detail to fashion a baby in the womb in microscopic reality.
God is an endless multi point of light, in everything in this universe has that God light in them, and communicates and touches God, so God is in all in knowing and through all in understanding.

It is in the science of God Who is protecting His creations in people by mandating that they have no other gods. The meaning is there are three power sources available to people, whose souls are very reflective.

Nature in the universe is a force which will end with time, meaning God warning His children to not reflect death and non existence, as that is what they will become is an act of Love, because God is a force of Life, and that force of Life is another Consuming Flame of all inferior forces. To link your soul to gold, stars, sex or satan, which will all be consumed in the darkness is to choose eternal death.
This is why the First Commandment must be obeyed and why it is the foundation for all the other Commandments. Unless a human soul trust or reflect God with all they are, they will not become God or Life, but instead become not perfection in the end, but something inferior which can not be perpetual life.
