The Reich at the end of the 2nd (really 3rd) world war made one mistake it had ignorantly overlooked, and that was the reality that Germany was the only civilized people in the war.
It should have been evident that the Soviet torture and murder of German Soldiers to the mass rape of German girls by Russian cock, that Russia was of the same rank as the English who had fire bombed German people because British bombing lacked the ability to target factories. Coupled with the reality that Franklin Roosevelt in the Americans had stood silent, holding the English and Russian coats as they raped Germany to genocide, with the evidence that America was now fire bombing Japanese poor workers to incineration, was the handwriting on the wall that when Germany asked to treat with the Allied power for peace, their only reply was one of a brute in not seeking peace, but instead increasing the rape and murder of Germans.
In understanding the situation of the last days of Germany, it is an exercise in "What If" and of interest in a reality of could Germany really have made peace with the allies, if they had embarked upon a different strategy.
The fact is that Italy, Romania, Hungary, Finland all made seperate allied peace proposals betraying the Germans, so could Germany actually have saved herself with a perfect gambit?
I believe there was an avenue for this and it would have involved treating with the most diplomatic people in Europe in the French. People overlook that the Reich treated the French with great humanity and respect. Vichy France has been degraded as a puppet regime, but Vichy France controlled all colonial empire before the war from Indochina to Africa to America.
The government there was friendly toward Germany and in that avenue, after the failures of D Day which produced a beach head in France. Adolf Hitler should have opened negotiations with Paris, and brought in Charles DeGaulle. DeGaulle was always independent, and I believe a Franco German peace could have been reached, which would have thrown the allies into chaos.
German forces would have engaged in a ceasefire, a return to German borders, with France controlling the oversight of the lowland nations in this Armistice.
With France being offered the saving of an entire nation from war, along with her people safe, it would be difficult for America and England to produce a propaganda, which would counter the saving of hundreds of thousands of American lives.

Once the issue was forced in this with a Franco German peace, which required the cessation of war on French and lowland territories, including the peace of Italy, it would be almost impossible for the United States and England to prosecute the war effectively. If America could be pressured, it would end English aggression. As stated, the problem with Germany is she waited too long. There should have been a peace plan at the ready, in friendly channels to the French to bring them on the German side to save France from the ravages of war. July and August 1944 would have been the time to secure this treaty, as the Russians were still in the hinterlands.
Russia had no long range bombers, and without the murderous British bombing and the precision American bombing, German infrastructure would have been rebuilt, and Germany would have had another 50 divisions to deploy in the east with matching tank and anti tank artillery. The Luftwaffe would have had one front to deploy and Adolf Hitler was already thinking of a replacement for the narcotic addicted, crossdresser Herman Goerring who would have checked the Russian dominance as German jets filled the skies.
Germany in Hitler's socialism actually won the war as the entire planet is not a socialist weed of sevile peoples bowing to the police state. I believe with a Franco German Peace that Germany would have broken the Allies, placed the shattered British empire onto the heaps of history, returned America to deal with the Japanese, and in this gained a peace treaty with a stalemated Russia, where Germany would have dominated the communists in technology and gained nuclear bombs, to have fought a successful atomic war against the communists, even with American intrigue.
I believe that this lack of preparation is the one mistake that the Germans made in world war, but they had been trained in past wars that in defeat, they could return to their borders and have peace. This time Franklin Roosevelt and his communist butcher friend Joe Stalin with Winston Churchill in the death throws of the British Empire, lost all humanity and defiled the rules of war in unconditional surrender. This cost needless American and British lives. The ridiculous conquest of Berlin with General Zhukov's forces wanted no part of and he had to threaten them make advances, cost the Russian people 300,000 plus more deaths, for a needless occupation of a city, which in the end Russia only gained one quarter of by Allied treaty.
If I could rewrite this history, I would have made the Franco German Peace, under the eye of General George S. Patton, who would have been allowed to base operations in a German American Peace in Austria, and then joined the American and German armies for a liberation of the Soviet Union.
This would have produced a lasting peace, as Adolf Hitler was aging, his replacements were all reasoned Germans, and the zealots would have been marginalized in time, and there never would have been a Cold War costing the United States trillions.
