I was asked what I did with the Coronavirus pandemic, concerning money as in cash. The fact is that TL has pretty much trained me to use plastic, and in that, I carefully wipe the plastic cards we use with alcohol after each trip to town.
Our thrift shop closed down, as the concern was about geezers getting the cough, and most other areas are shut down too, so my world is a gas card, two debit cards and the Discover for groceries. Without the thrift I am basically cashless, as our last purchase in cash was a neighbor for honey.
That is not to say we do not have cash on hand, as that is important as no one knows what will happen in things going down.
But in dealing with cash, there are of course paper and coins. Coins you can use soap, hot water and I would think a diluted bleach. DO NOT BLEACH PAPER MONEY THOUGH as that is what counterfeiters do to remove the ink and reprint the bills with 100's.
Your paper money in America is cotton and linen. It is cloth in other words, but what is on it, is as dye, which you do not want coming off, as it will be the same price as your 3 dollar used undies, minus the 3 dollars.
China is disinfecting their money, and using something which I thought of, as we used to have safety glasses in school, and we put them into a cabinet with an infrared light. I doubt I would put my life on the line with light or even soap, but I will imagine that the United States will begin disinfecting cash at locations.
The initiative specifies that cash withdrawn from hospitals and other high-risk areas be “specially treated and sealed separately.” Treatment may include high temperatures or an ultraviolet light to disinfect the currency, which must then be stored for no less than 14 days before going back on the market.
According to the World Health Organization, it is unknown how long the coronavirus can survive on surfaces, though “preliminary information suggests the virus may survive a few hours or more.”
“Simple disinfectants can kill the virus making it no longer possible to infect people,” says WHO, also noting the importance of thorough hand-washing.
WIKI has a suggestion, about cleaning money, which is cold water and mild soap. It seems like a great deal of work, including the drying part.
I thought maybe spraying it with a 2 part alcohol and water solution would work, but a link said that it discolored the bills.

The thing is, money is like all filthy things. In the Bush Clinton Miami Vice coke days, the bills in America all had traces of coke on them. You should know that the shit stains on everything as people do not wash their hands are on money too.
What follows is the sound advice. If I was in New York City, the metros of Washington and California, I would not be using currency. It is a point if you are to self quarantine in shutting down your community, then not using cash is a definite.
In this I would go plastic. You have to understand that shortly, even people like me in remote locations are going to run out of areas to spend money period. For example, except for supply outlets, even the brier patch is shutting down. Our utility closed to the public, nursing homes, hospitals.
So with latex gloves you can handle money, put it into a cash purse with zipper, wash that when you get home and wash the cash, probably in your garage for the degree of separation, dry it and start over again, or trust your Federal Reserve to start scalding the viruses.
