The Corona Garden
As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.
As I type this, it is March 29th, 2020, and America on the Coastal Crescent of Coronavirus is about to begin the waves of this virus, so you will know in the next weeks the outcome, but here am I thinking of the future in what may happen.
There is going to be a reduction in food production in the world. The fact is, that the biggest food producers in China, India and Indonesia are also the biggest consumers. There are few America, Brazil, Russia and Argentina in the mix to fill in.
Some crops are labor intensive as in fruits and vegetables. Staples like cereal grains and potatoes in the United States are mechanically produced. That is important, unless those 60 plus year old farmers that America has, all start dying from Coronavirus, then the land issue and crop issue in America takes on a new non production menu, which will not begin appearing until spring planting, when most of this Corona will start cropping up, and if these farmers are incapacitated and die over the summer, then the issue is the harvest which will not come.
HAARP has been destroying American crops in the fields in the fall for two years. It does this this year, and the world is going to really tighten up. I am telling you that Coronavirus is a start. It is not economics, but the situation of food which will breed a global war.
To answer this I counsel that all Americans plant some sort of garden. I am not talking about pot plants as they do not produce effectively, but I am speaking about something of staples to tide you over.
Plants like corn and potatoes take up a great deal of space, but you do not need many potatoes if you do it right. 15 hills, a trench they are planted in, and water like all every week, and you will get about 4 buckets of potatoes. I prefer Yukon Gold and Purple Viking, as they are mid season, produce and are dependable. You do not want long season potatoes even if they are better, as it takes more time, more water and more bugs will appear.
I also caution you to not depend on greenhouses. Remember they are places which produce plants nationally, and with Corona, they may not ship, or get planted as people will be afraid to come into work. So tomatoes might not be there or other plants like cabbage.
I am not going to tell you what to plant. I will say most of you will not want dirty carrots or beets to deal with in your lily white world. Most will not like the flavor of turnips.
I you like squash, plant them as they will grow out of your ears. Onions have to go in the ground EARLY.
Pole beans or green beans will produce more than you care to eat, and you may have to work to put the up.
I am a believer in leaf lettuce and chard though, They produce a great deal and more than you will care to eat, few pests. I like lemon cukes and a German cuke I found, lots of production, along with Armenian cukes for fresh things all summer.
That is what I am going to plant, my heritage corn, and some melons. Melons are tough in most locations to grow, but I have good fortune with French types. I have no idea why but I can not grow what other say grow like Minnesota Midget. For me the French Petite Grey will out produce everything.
I will sprout my snacking tomatoes and a pink one which was an outlier in a packet I had of another variety. It grows good, tastes good, so it is what I grow.
I do not think there will be a problem with food production in America. Harvest may be in fruits and veggies. If the farmers survive, the geezers will harvest, if not then that puts in a new dimension in the world for food supply
