He started life as a paratrooper in what was then the new Army Rangers of D Day in World War II. John Singlaub would parachute in behind enemy lines, join the free French as part of the OSS and fight Germans with great success.
He would go on to command in China in special operations, and his footprint from Okinawa Japan, would begin leaving telltale signs in the Vietnam War with his Green Berets, when exploded rifle parts began embedding into North Vietnamese Communist skulls.
Maj. General John Singlaub was fighting a war.
What Singlaub's children began in reconnaissance missions in Laos, Cambodia and North Vietnam, evolved after locating massive ammo dumps, into a plan to remove select ordnance, and then super load it, so that when the communists fired it at Americans, their weapons would explode.
It was progressed that simple 7.62 x 39 AK 47 rounds loaded to around 40,000 PSI could be loaded with a high explosive of 250,000 PSI, and the result when the trigger was pulled, that the bolt would blow back like a dagger and be impaled into NVA skulls.
The Okinawa lab which was doctoring ammo, found a replacement powder for the Chinese made rounds which looked exactly like gunpowder. The rounds were hand made, mirroring the original lacquer seal and the Green Berets would fly the sabotaged rounds back to the combat zone to salt it in.
The program expanded to mortar rounds, where the rounds were short fused, packed with high explosives and again, soon photos began emerging of the Singlaub Star Mortar pattern, where NVA and Vietcong mortar units would be laying dead around a star shaped pattern.
Of course the communist New York Times revealed this operation, as why should Americans win a war against their comrades. The damage though had been done, as the DIA began planting stories, warning Americans GI's from firing captured weapons as due to faulty Chinese quality and control, the weapons were blowing up.
The North Vietnamese were primed to believe the stories as the communist Chinese to this day have horrid quality control. The Coronavirus Wuhan is such a perfect example of what happens when Chinese become involved in anything. They are liars, crooks and swindlers, and everyone, including the Vietnamese are well aware of their cut throat tactics, like building islands in oil drilling zones to claim it is their oil.
The Singlaub strategy did not go away. Munitions in war zones are still exploding with lethal force on enemies. It has evolved though as the 7.62 ammo is loaded not to high pressure rounds, but instead thermite rounds which melt down a rifle's magazine, to protect civilians in America who might come across a hot load like this in foreign ammo purchases.
