To Find a Gem in a Mountain of Stones

As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.

TL and I have been fans of foreign cinema for sometime. The Russians make some very good movies and the Chinese do a superb job in their running up walls. It all though somehow misses the mark, in the way 300 did in getting into something unbelievable.

Today TL and I visited the Junk Yard Guy, and as he as busy moving things around with his humongous machinery, TL and I wandered around paradise to see what we could find. Oddly as we were looking for stove parts, there on the side of junk mountain was a movie, which had been through winter storm and whatever, as the outside box was beat to hell, but the movie was intact.

About all I could make of it, was it was a Chinese movie in the running up the walls type, so we picked it up and another movie laying there, and proceeded to find 2 pans, a lid, JYG helped with stove parts, we got 3 kiddie folding chairs for ice fishing and JYG told me to climb on top of his house, so I did and there was a Presto canner he had stored away there. He is really a darling gentleman in taking care of us, in finding things we need and always having answers on projects.

So for 50 dollars, we got more than 50 dollars again as the cast iron grates from the grills we purchased was 65 dollars on Amazon from Vogelsang.

So we brought home Painted Skin - The Resurrection and ........as I type this after 2 hours of viewing which felt more like 15 minutes, I believe thsi motion picture is the best cinema ever produced. This is a masterpiece, of doing all the things of Asian movies but making you believe it is all possible. This movie is like Hidden Tiger Crouching Dragon meets 300 meets 32 Ronan meets Romeo and Juliet meets John Wayne. It is stirring, it is suspenseful, it is intriguing, it is action, it is adventure, it is fairytale, it is Aesop's fables, it is romance, it is drama, it is a mystical dream.

The cinematography is  so melded that you don't realize as you appreciate the camera going slow motion in key scenes for dramatic effect and yet in sweeps increases speed to add urgency to the film.

I can tell you that Lord of the Rings is shit compared to Painted Skin. I can promise you that Stephen Speilberg, George Lucas, Ronnie Howard, combined, never had one minute of film where Painted Skin, has 120 minutes of constant artistic perfection.

Even the closing score is fantastic.

I can not allow this move to supplant my beloved John Wayne westerns, but this is one thing the Chinese did right.......albeit is has more of a Japanese feel to it and the actors all look more Japanese than Chinese which adds a great deal to the performances as let's face it, watching Japanese people is just so much more appealing. Is why anime is so appealing in the Japanese make themselves into Occidentals and do Hellsing better than the British ever could in portraying themselves.

There is a beautiful moral of the story in this movie, about love, and what the heart is. A demon without a heart desires to be human to have a heart, while a human with a heart, desires not to have a heart to feel, to be as a demon.

It is another amazing thing to go into junk pile and find a treasure.
