Among the Thorns and Ivy

As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.

As I type this in December, I honestly had a scare.

I had been the great scout for TL in the junk yard in taking TL through areas no one has been for a decade, when I hooked up with a red brush stick, which was quite pretty, but it had a wicked looking rose thorn which penetrated my jeans and I said ouch.

It gave me a nasty scratch which turned red, as something was going on, but that is not what scared me. What scared me was the middle started with what looked like a spreading bruise. I know I had not bumped it, as this was a scratch, but it started spreading down the 3 inch scratch line to an inch wide.

I knew as it started by the Holy Ghost that I had some poison or toxic natural chemical at work, a plant venom in fact, but I did not know the plant and more to the point, it was winter, and this plant should not have any sap or residue on it, which honestly is some of the most toxic on the planet, in the realm of the oil of poison ivy.

I believe I am recovering, but this is natural toxin which ruptures the walls of capillaries like a blow would. Reminds me a bit of some spider venoms designed to do this in enhancing the digestion process. Rattlesnakes produce a protein which clots blood, so while it is like this, it is not this. I have half a notion to go back on that trail, mark that plant and see what it does in the spring, as the poison on that one thorn was so concentrated that my body immediately reacted to it, but nothing neutralized it as it literally started breaking down my blood tissues. Remarkable really, like the bug eating plants which are led by the Venus Flytrap.

It seems like an odd defense for a plant, as I doubt browers would be bothered by it, as this was more something which would affect humans or perhaps used as a dart poison on arrowheads, but I have no idea if cooking would remedy it or if it would remain lethal.

I just thank God He healed me, as here I was playing Kit Carson and ended up on some lethal Star Trek planet filled with killer plants.

Kind of a bummer.
