As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.
I never second guess President Vladimir Putin nor his military staff as they have a history being ruthlessly right as much as prudently astute in operations.
I do though wonder now that apparently most of the children and civilian human shields are no longer at the Maripol Steel Works and only Nazi remain, if the one day shelling of the plant which has nuclear fall out shelter tunnels for 40,000 steel workers, had better be in military strategy a softening up period of that day, and for Russian tanks to penetrate the steel plants zone and enter into the military policy which would be prudent.
Namely, the Kremlin should state that if all the Nazis have not surrendered by 6 AM tomorrow, there will not be any more negotiations and that the Nazis will be entombed in those tunnels.
The policy is one which the United States unleashed on the Japanese in Okinawa in World War II. In this case, the policy would be for tanks to enter the zones where ventilation and tunnel access came to the surface. This the Russians would know as they built this network.
What America did to the Japanese was to flood tunnels with gasoline of that other American invention called Napalm and set it all afire.
America tried this in Vietnam in Vietcong tunnels and the Vietnamese produced chamber locks where smoke or lack of air would not kill all the Vietnamese occupants.
In this case though, that is not the issue, as the purpose would be to lock down all air shafts and tunnel entrances, fill them with truckloads of Napalm and phosphorous which burns for days in a caustic smoke and literally suck the oxygen out of the tunnels by the burning fires.
There is nothing high tech in this. Is 1945 American technology. It would just require around 50 milk trucks with 10,000 gallon tanks, some jet engines to increase draft into the tunnels and then phosphorous to make Dante's Inferno.
It does not matter if there are air locks or how big this thing is, because all that is required is no refreshing air, sucking the air out like an English created Dresden firestorm and a smudge pot to keep things unhealthy for weeks.
There are rules in warfare. 4 to be exact.
1. Never retreat into a dead end.
2. Never a climb a tree as you can not come down.
3. Never go into a tunnel.
4. Never get yourself launched into outer space in a war.
The Nazi of Ukraine violated the rules by entering that tunnel. The Japanese proved that a tunnel defense is only as good as your resources. Go negative resources and the tunnel becomes a tomb.
It is never a good thing to keep small things dangling around as they might become big things with other events.
