The Lame Cherry, giving this some analysis, happened upon two available civilian systems in torch backpacks. The first seems to be Jewish girls and the latter is an American system.
There are more expedient cost available torches in packs, such as the Oxygen Acetelyine and Oxygen propane systems which are as effective, as the main point in this is to always deal with any situation at the weakest point.
In the case of a German Leopard tank, the weakest point is the track. The method in this would be for a sapper to approach a tank from the right or left flank at an angle. Crawl under the tank, light the torch and simply cut the track. It appears cutting a front or rear sprocket would be effective, but probably require more time. Time is always of the essence.
Under the tank (the safest location) would be unwise to cut a track tightener as the tank rides on these, take them out and you may have a tank fall you which is unwise. Logistics would state that a sapper could cut both tracks in under 5 minutes, disabling the tank from movement.
A 5 minute investment would require hours of repair, and as that was being undertaken, the crews would be exposed to sniper fire.
In this, a multi million dollar weapon, with millions of dollars of high tech weapons, has been disabled with a several hundred to several thousands dollar torch system, and the crews disable with sniping with 10 cent cartridges. That is a a cost effect strategy and tactic.
The same methods would prevail on APC, mechanized artillery to Hummers. Cutting wheels off of vehicles is just as disabling as a sapper burning a hole in the auto matic transmission case so all the fluid runs out. Given an hour, a sapper could disable 30 vehicles.
The two risks in this for a sapper are closing to contact point for the operation and the actual torch as it does make an air hose type sound, which while not loud, might be heard by the occupants of a tank. Again though, in most instances, crews do not sleep in their tanks or Hummers.
The other risk is torches produce light. This is not a night time operation. For this if a caustic would be more advisable. This type of instrument for demolition would be contained in a tube, as long as the tank track was wide, ignited with magnesium as this requires some heat to ignite, and in this, a track could be melted away in this type of fire grenade.
Pre manufactured type systems like this would allow one sapper to disable a hundred vehicles per hour.
