An Epitaph to America

As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.

People always want some fiction about America on the 4th of July, but America's Republic is deader than Rome when Julius crossed the Rubicon. For me though the thing that says America is a Winchester model 92.

That would be the John Wayne lever action rifles which you saw in all the old westerns. They were remarkable in handy, light weight, and rapid firepower. They really are an assault weapon which makes all these other shitters in the AR 15 look like the shit they are.

I was in the farm store and as I always go and look at guns, there was this shining one on the top display case.  I noticed last week that it was a short barrel. I have wanted a short barrel Winchester since I read about them in a magazine, in the Tigerero of Central and South America had them in 12 to 16 inch barrels, as they were handy in jungle conditions to hunt jaguars behind the hounds.

Of course that Kennedy ATF 1968 Gun Grabber Act ended all of these gems as their barrels were too short. I maintain that short ropes around criminals necks were designed to protect my rights if they misuse guns. Instead America punishes the law abiding.

Oh by the way, the ATF did a new form now to investigate you and that form asks if you live in the city or country......like that makes jack shit difference in buying a gun, but the feds are logging that information now.

Anyway the dude got it wrong, it might have been the Deputy Sheriff, in he said this gun was a Marlin. Nope it was a Rossi, from Brazil. Rossi makes very good firearms. I like the better than them damned expensive Henry rifles which will fly apart if you fan the action.

You can for a fortune of 1500 bucks get a Henry Mare's Leg which is a short barrel, but it does not have a stock on it, just this short thing like Steve McQueen carried in that western he was in. That is too much for any gun. All guns are now too much. I think this Rossi goes for 850, which is allot of money, but you can have a look at it, as it is a 1776 thing, but it shines like a nigger's heel, in day or night and give away your position.

It is pretty though and I liked holding the one I was holding. Not fond of the rear buckhorn sight, but she is what she is. This Rossi has a little safety thing just in front of the trigger that clicks to red. It has a half cock hammer too.

It comes in 357 and 44 Magnum. I would be more fond of a 45 Long Colt as it would match the Ruger Vaquero which happened into my loving hands long ago.

I like the Brazilian bizarre wood from the jungle they use. It is dark, but it has a soft glow to it. Of course I am prejudicial in loving the old Winchester browning and pretty finish on American hardwood that John Olin put on his early guns, but this Rossi is nice. I don't quite get the point of the 1776, maybe it is an epitaph to dead America.

I know this 1776 would be at home on horse back as it is a handy little creature, pricey though, but until some rich person leaves me in their living will that I get all their stuff while they are alive and one of the stuff is a cedar chest and I open it and inside are piles of guns and ammo, I have to think in terms of how nice a rifle like this would accomplish things in situations where Lucky Ned Pepper might be being Ned Pepper to little virgin girls played by Kim Darby.

This really is a survival tool. They once called these pot guns as you killed your evening meal with it and you killed criminals trying to kill you with it, hence the pot shot.

I don't have an AR 15 as I see no point in that ugly thing. If I was up close as that is what a 223 is for, I would rather have a 12 gauge loaded with buck. If it is over 100 yards, then I want something deer size like a 94 in 30 30 which was the Winchester deer rifle when it was American and not European owned.

That is where these 92's come in. That is what the Spencer in 56 caliber was in the Civil War, the first assault rifle. The Confederates used to cuss those damn Yankees who could load on Sunday and shoot all week. 8 shots ain't all week, but if you can't get it done in 8 shots you had better have paid the plot for you to be laid out in the Darwin cemetery.

Now I just need Beau as that is going to be all the transportation there is when things get to the scrape to the bone time.
