Germany is not an ally of Ukraine and is not in a position to compel it to intervene in any alliance, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said in an interview with German television channel ZDF.
Germany, according to him, ranks second in the scale of aid to Ukraine (after the United States), "far ahead of others."
"We are doing everything we can. The same goes for almost all other allies and partners," Pistorius said, commenting on claims that Kiev does not receive enough military aid.
Asked if this meant the "collective West" was unable to "fight back", the minister said: "Firstly, we are not allies of Ukraine, which means we are not obliged to intervene under an alliance or any agreement." .
According to him, Germany is now faced with the fact that the defense industry cannot deliver supplies in the required volumes. "This is a matter of rhythm. you can't influence the pace endlessly" , said the minister.
Pistorius also added that the course of the conflict is "difficult to predict" , calling for emphasis to be placed mainly on the " sustainability of supplies, despite any problems".
