The Soviet Union was never known for subtle, from mass rape to using starvation to cull problems. That is what is interesting in the sophisticated change which the Russians under President Putin have matured to, as these are patient, methodical thinking, tacticians who have a strategy and will not be moved from it.
The most recent example which has let the cat out of the bag is how Russia was swarming NATO Patriot and other systems and blowing the hell out of the Nazi in Ukraine. They simply for over 2 years have never figured out what Russia was doing in these mass drone attacks which diverted attention from the missiles which Russia was sending to target.
The answer came from the Bulgarian military analysis in analyzing video of a Kh 101 cruise missile, a quite large missile which is fired off their bombers.
Ukraine as stated has had fits in not being able to shoot down Russian missiles. They lie in claiming they are shooting hypersonics and all they are hitting are these decoys. In that we are finding out the mystery of Russian invention.
The startegy sounds simple after the fact, but it is as genius as their trenches which killed the NATO Nazi in combat. What Russia engaged in was not so much mass launches of decoys. Instead Russia gave Ukraine something to shoot at, and take a guess at the only missile which Ukraine has been shooting down......yes it was the Kh 101, because the Russians wanted them to shoot this cruise missile down.
The Kh 101 though has something else up it's wargame as it has electronic counter measures like the American Wild Weasel and when you discover what else this platform packs, along with it's warhead, you should appreciate Russian chess all the more.
What video captured was a Kh 101, firing off it's own missiles as decoys to be tracked by NATO air defense. The Russians are literally littering the skies with chaff or decoy missiles that all look like enemy missiles. This is how Russia has defeated the billion dollar systems of the West. As I stated, it is simple, but no one has come up with this before in such an effective and affordable platform.
There is nothing Soviet Union in this. This outshines even the best which America has invented as this is not a piloted craft, this is not thousands of fragile drones, this is just missile flares and if you ignore the missile it still has a warhead which blows up the target.
These Putin Russians are an inspired people.
