On the Brier I have one of these contraptions. You see less and less of the 1950 type silage silo as fucking shit for brains people keep knocking them down. Mine is ........well standing there so what is the point of making a pile of rubble.
These things have wooden doors with a medal latch on each side so you can go do farmer things. Mine has 22 caliber rifle holes in the aluminum top to let toxic gas escape so the farmer would not suffocate.
I got to looking at this thing, and the idea came forth from God, that here is my emergency shelter, for radioactive war, storm and one tremendous defensive position. Here is what I envision when resources appear by God's Grace, that would be donations.
I will build a ceiling inside, or you could call it a roof, about 9 feet high. A stairway would be nice, as I could keep on building decks on top of each other to the top and have one observation and shooting platform. Could fill in the 22 holes then as I'm not crawling up that outside ladder ever.
OK here is the radiation course. Radiation does not turn corners, so I will build a 90 degree door entryway at the base. Oh I have to dig out all the shit old silage inside or dust that blew in, no big deal.
So I build the deck or ceiling above just like a barn ceiling would be, to hold some weight. That part is important as radiation might fall from the sky..........so you need protection. The thing is, you do not need lead. You can use newspapers or boxes full of stuff if that is your pile of shit, or you could use sandbags as radiation only penetrates so far.
I can put vents for filter air, can put a chimney up that aluminum covered outside, and no one will ever see. If I camo the entrance, no one would ever be the wiser when they snoop around. I ain't going to open the door I would build anyway as that is the point of this.......no one gets in whether two leggers or radiation.
Sure this could be a fort if marauding Mad Max bands end up in the Brier, but this is more for a two week stay for us until the nuclear powers are ashes and most of you are going to be fertilizer flowing downstream turning the ocean red with a big bloom.
This actually ain't that big of a project and would look forward to it with resources. I could always do a feral cement thing on top of this ceiling to seal it up mouse and rat tight, and pile stuff on top of that. Be ...........just thinking I could put a water tower thing on top, run pipes down and have running water......flush it out the side into a hole and that would solve all of that too. Just can't get a tower in the little holes, have to be some culvert thing and seal up the top and ends.
I know future tense.
This though would be my bunker above ground that would have a 99% surety against humans, 99% against weather, and as long as I was not a hot zone snow or rain, I would gain an 80% + survival even in radioactive wars, and that 80 would be if I got a hot drift.
Anyway that is the story on that idea. Not enough time to do things though or resources.
