As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.
I don't know if anyone ever did this, don't know as I said and don't care.
Over Thanksgiving, we had a Butternut squash crack and not wanting to waste it, I told TL we should BBQ it or smoke it.
So we did that, did not eat it, and just put it into the fridge for a few days and came home to make soup, like we always so on the squash soup recipe.
OK basics in the recipe you mix and match without measuring.
1 squash
Some water to stop it from being a paste.
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 onion browned
Enough cream or half and half to turn it into soup.
Top it with sour cream
Ok so the first bite I took, I thought, "Why does this taste like bacon?" TL thought the same thing.
Then the Holy Ghost said, 'You did smoke the squash".
WOW that is fantastic as the smoke took away all the things about squash I dislike in being overpowering.
I think just about anyone would like this soup now. The smokey flavor is wonderful. If you recall I used Apricot wood, it had a heavier smoke to it like Poplar. Not what I expected, but I used two about 3 inch logs by a foot long and they did well in churning out the smoke haze.
I actually would grow squash for eating with this smoked recipe. Will plan for it or did over Christmas and enjoy the squash that way, as you can freeze that stuff too for later use and it will keep.
Ok that's it. Squash will feed people a whole lot from starving. This soup is worth eating and will not get any older than eating bacon which no one gets tired of.
