As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.
TL and I were discussing an actor this morning in a horrid HBO vampire thing called True Blood in Alexander Johan Hjalmar Skarsgård, in the fantastic range he has as you can not almost recognize him on screen when he changes, which brought us to another actor in Stephen Lang, who once he set his teeth into real acting, you do not recognize him in roles, except for his eyes give him away.........which in turn brought this to Val Kilmer whose performance in Tombstone and The Saint was phenomenal and put him into a category where I would watch anything he was in, because he was worth it.
That is why when I read in Russian media that Val Kilmer has died, that it saddened me at the loss of a very wonderful performer. He apparently disappeared as Val Kilmer and became his characters, which was not exactly acting, but it was appreciated.
My deepest sympathies go to his son and daughter, and in looking them up, was pleased that Mercedes Kilmer is beautiful like her mother, Joanne Whatley and that Jack has that same bursting smile which his father has. Why so many Hollywood scions look like Bruce Willis' entourage which makes one cringe is a Darwin of nature, but the pleasant children of Mr. and Mrs. Kilmer are a heritage which all of us can look upon and enjoy.
Probably none of this is fitting in an obituary or a memorial, but it is the way I am, because the Kilmers are not going to be comforted in reading this as they will not read it. This is selfish as all memorials are in the person who is missing from my life, and the fitting words for the family, that others share their loss and grief and yes, are envious, in having had personal contact with someone who made an impact on theatrical arts to give a human, something more to live up to. Thee example of Doc Holiday as portrayed by Val Kilmer is going to affect little boys for the positive until Jesus comes back, little boys who have little positive male influence in their broken lives.
Why Johnny Ringo, you look like someone just walked over your grave.
That is what legacy is. Affecting children around the world positively that you never knew and never will know, but you made a difference in their lives for good.
“When you’re working with people, you’d get them, sometimes at the end of the show, you get them trade gifts,” Russell revealed. “It’s not mandatory, it’s not something that you gotta do or that they’ve gotta do.”
The actor said he bought Kilmer a burial plot in Boothill Graveyard in Tombstone, Arizona, where some of the most famous Old West figures are buried. Unbeknownst to him, though, Kilmer purchased an acre of land overlooking Boothill, which he gifted to Russell.
“I give Val this present and he looks at me and he turns to his driver and he says, ‘Give it to me.’ Because what I had gotten Val was a plot at Boothill, what Val had gotten me was an acre of land overlooking Boothill,” he recalled. “Doc Holliday was all about death, but Wyatt’s all about life. I guess that pretty much says it all…If you’re asking me if it was great working with Val Kilmer… the answer is absolutely.”
