the judgement of men

Beware the man who cries too easily and laughs too seriously.

- Lame Cherry

As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.

The feud between Kansas and Missouri in thee American West is almost forgotten, but there was not a river wide enough in the world to find remedy in civil war which was waged before thee American Civil War began in these two states which began with the issue of slave and free, and rendered down to a hatred which split into factions among factions, as what was sown as vigilantism, grew into a crop of crossborder raids in "stealing" to get back what was stolen in jayhawking, and then lynching and mass murder, when Quantrel appeared out of Missouri and struck Lawrence Kansas, and was pursued by James Lane who would fight and kill even the farmer, as he burned down the farmers house, the raiders who had mass murdered in Kansas.

One of the great mistakes of the Civil War, was the act of pardon by President Abraham Lincoln, and put into action, by General Grant in the victory at Vicksburg Mississippi. There General Pemberton surrendered in most lenient terms to the Union commander his tens of thousands of troops, who were then paroled. The problem soon arose as the parolees who were to swear an oath to the United States to be free, returned to Missouri and began organizing into gangs, and armed militias and unleashed on Union men a complete terrorism in the region. The offshoots of this would follow to the James Gang who were some of the ablest riders in this group of  thousands of guerillas at war with the United States.

It was in this that the internal feud in Missouri festered in Conservatives and Radicals, each not being able to be controlled by any General that Abraham Lincoln put in charge. The Radicals with Jim Lane finally appeared with all their abolition at the White House for a 2 hour, locked door meeting with the President. It ended with Lincoln in tears when Chairman Drake, told Lincoln that the men there were going home to the threats of murder which they had spoken of for remedy, and that the blood of the dead would be on Lincoln's hands.
To this Abraham Lincoln had tears streaming down his face.

To Enos Clarke it was memorable. He shook hands, walked off with others, at the door turned for a final look, "Mr. Lincoln had met some personal acquaintances with whom he was exchanging pleasantries, and instead of the tears of a few moments before, he was indulging in hearty laughter. This rapid and wonderful transition from one extreme to the other impressed me greatly".

A leader of the Missouri Radicals had a meeting with President Lincoln, a German Radical by the name of Dr. Emil Preetorius, who had a frank exchange with the President in demanding that General Schofield who was in charge of the Department of the Missouri be replaced by democrat General, Benjamin Butler.

President Lincoln informed the Radical that he would be a follower of public opinion and not a leader, as the opinion in the Border States had not matured, as what was needed to educate the public to bring them to the right conclusions.

Was Abraham Lincoln like Bill Clinton able to yuck it up with friends at a funeral and then spot the cameras and in a step turn on the tears, or was Abraham Lincoln like a child or a woman, crying one instant and made to laugh the next, as Lincoln was a dichotomy of emotions which flitted through his melancholy one moment and laughter the next.

Sometimes it is easier to judge a man when you do not know like God what is in his heart.
