Of peace and two masters

As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.

As we are rolled around in the drama of Donald Trump and his negotiations and threats, I found this interesting comparison to Abraham Lincoln in dealing with Confederate ambassadors of peace from Jefferson Davis, at the instigation of the Blair family of Missouri.

This part was most interesting in what a ballsy man this Army officer was, speaking for President Lincoln...........ballsy in he told the commanding General of the United States he could not be involved.

Lincoln was an extremely shrewd negotiator. He was not going to allow two common nations be stated, but his one common nation as the maxim in this.

The conference with Eckert yielded nothing, because the Confederates insisted on two nations. Eckert telegraphed that nothing was being accomplished.........and then Grant stuck his nose in and wrote a lengthy diatribe about Lincoln meeting these men........which moved Lincoln to do so.

What follows was a summation of Abraham Lincoln setting the Confederates straight on the terms of peace.

The Confederates wanted to keep General Grant around as they thought they could get him to agree to an armistice which would have been the waste of all those lives who had fought in the war. General Grant was a fool.

It was not long after this conference that President Lincoln weighed in on being the fool with a scheme of his own. The Cabinet heard it, and rejected it.

What it came down to is the reality which started this. The only thing which settles matters is victory.
