As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.
I'm watching with TL a rather blase' history of World War II in the Pacific theater of operations and it makes me examine what thee Imperial Japanese could have done better.
The Japanese knew they had about a year to achieve a capitulation with America and Europe and then they would eventually lose the war. The reasonable Japanese did, the zealots talked themselves into all kinds of propaganda which doomed the Empire.
I have a map below and will outline what I think the military should have enacted as their order of battle and I think Japan might have won with this strategy.
This is a map of what Japan possessed and occupied at their zenith in the Asian war. It provides a basis to build from. Japan needed oil, which is why they struck the Dutch colonials. American Asian assets were struck to buy time, and the British were hit, as they are a festering sore
Japan was already engaged in China, as was America in the Flying Tigers in combat. They moved into the islands as a shield against America and into Indochina, again for oil and to get at the British and the Tokyo idea to conquer India in driving out the British.
In this Burma was the downfall of the British and it would due to the Monsoon be the downfall of the Japanese. Here is where the popular girl changes the order of battle.
We now know that the Japanese wasted resources in Indochina and Burma. The same can be said of their island screening operation against the United States. In the map below, I lay out operations which I believe would have brought victory to Imperial Japan.
In the prelude to December 7th, I would have produced two task forces. I would have left a holding force in China, and forgot about the Philippines and Indochina. Where I would have sent my invasion forces were to Hawaii and Australia.
Japan did not have the resources to hold China, India and Indochina. The fact is that those nations provided little for Japan or would ever in their high populations.
Instead of wasting time in the Philippines, take Hawaii. Instead of wasting time in Burma, take Australia with low population.
These are both exposed positions and a long supply route, but here is the order of battle.
On December 7th, a landing force would follow the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Taking Hawaii would send the US fleet back to San Diego. Hawaii controls the Pacific.
On the same day, Japan invades Australia and in that operation has the land captured, and this is where the reverse comes into play. Now Japan takes Singapore and moves north into Indochina.
In the meantime, Japan occupies Hawaii and with a submarine screening force begins the destruction of the American shipping and fleet. The Japanese principle is to force thee American fleet to come to them to fight which is long distance and Japan has the edge in position. All these islands are cut off and will fall by siege, and that includes moving on the Philippines and Formosa.
This is in reverse of what Japan engaged in, but is General MacArthur in strategy in cutting off the islands and forcing Japan to fight battles which America chose.
This would force America to try and supply the Philippines and force America to attempt to fight from New Zealand, a very long way from Japan and from the lower 48. Fight the war there with submarines and America would lose.
With this strategy, Japan controls the eastern Pacific by Singapore, Malay, Dutch East Indies and Australia. The epic battle would take place for New Zealand and Japan had an equal shot at winning there in naval, air and army power.
France was sitting on Hitler's lap. Hitler had the English pinned down and the United States could not hide the vast ocean sniping at Japan. Without England, Hitler could have unleashed fully on the Soviets and the Reich would have smashed Russia if they had those forces. Without England and Russia, America would be held hostage for New Zealand as that is all that was left.
Japan would have maximum resources and China would fall as would the rest of the European colonies.
With America neutralized, Japan could have taken the Indian ports and let the British boil their brains out in India.
As what Japan attempted and failed at, that strategy should not have been attempted.
If Hitler would have unhooked the plough on England and taken that island, instead of being humane to the English, this would have changed the dynamic in the Pacific. Australia had all that China was without the population.
The reason for this examination is this history is going to repeat again. China is now the antagonist and Australia is the focus. If China is not the antagonist, it will be the billion in Indonesia who will spread south to those lands in the 22nd century.
