As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.
I was on this site and have no idea if the babe is German or not in her frau name, but she mentioned a cooking tip of that weird European Musilex or whatever that horse feed is, which pertains to granola too. Her point was that toasting it in the oven, got rid of the chaff taste.
I would disagree that rolled oat is healthy. Most is sprayed with Monsanto like wheat to kill it for harvest to speed things up. Quaker and generic make me sick.
I found a site called Azure whose products are supposed to be healthy. I have tried and eaten some, and had not horrid results. They charge you for using a credit card, which you have to pay for 4 times, and then once you are kosher you get to use a bank account number for free ordering. What they do on bulk items is charge around 10 bucks for a drop shipping point in your area once a month from a truck which you help unload. Mine is an Amish draw apparently as there were more German brethern there than heathens.
Anyway I put the frau's recipe here and you can surf her site, but the simple idea is bake the grain to get rid of the chaff. I would also forget millet as I dislike it and kamut which is just another wheat. You can find other things to transplant as basically what she is doing is what the Kentucky Riflemen did in parched corn. Just cook it in a pan so it is not raw, and parboil is just partial boiled rice which cooks faster. Still has to be cooked though unless you are a Holstein cow and like grinding your teeth away.
Muesli - Fake Familia
- 2 cups of rolled oats or regular (not instant) oatmeal
- 1 cup of rolled barley
- 1 cup of rolled rye
- 1/2 cup wheat flakes (optional, but replace with barley, rye or oats)
- 2 tablespoons millet (optional)
- 2 tablespoons kamut (optional)
- 2 tablespoons wheat germ (optional)
- 1 1/2 cups chopped almonds, toasted or an equivalent of your favorite or mixture of favorite nuts
- 1/2 cup chopped dried fruit
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt (optional)
- Turbinado (organic, raw) sugar, if desired *
Put all grains on a large rimmed baking sheet and toast in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes, stirring every 10. Let cool. This helps to bring out the sweeter flavors of the grains and rid them of any “raw” taste. Do not brown.
Chop nuts and toast them in a dry, heavy skillet for several minutes. Once they begin to smell, they are sufficiently toasted. Remove and let cool as they will continue to cook and perhaps burn if left in the pan. The nuts may be chopped in a food processor.
Chop dried fruit of your choice and measure. Dried fruit can be quite sticky: a thin knife helps, and a touch of spray oil will help prevent sticking.
Combine all ingredients and store in airtight container, in fridge or freezer is best. Stir before using as it will settle.
As an addition, I think most people would benefit in using puffed rice and wheat for fillers on the grains.
