My favorite chapters and verses in the Bible surround the story of how God brought an end to Ahab, kind of Israel, in the events surrounding the Prophet, Micaiah son of Imlah.
It was absolutely deadly to be a Christian in the Northern Kingdom under Ahab and Jezebel yet Micaiah did not refuse God, as it must have made him want to run away. Jeremiah protested he was too young. Elijah told God that everyone was dead and he was being hunted, so he ran to the mountains. Not Micaiah, son of Imlah. He not only mocks Ahab in this story, but tells him the Truth, and gets thrown into prison for it.
6So the king of Israel assembled the prophets, about four hundred men, and asked them, “Should I go to war against Ramoth-gilead, or should I refrain?”
“Go up,” they replied, “and the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.”
7But Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there not still a prophet of the LORD here of whom we can inquire?”
8The king of Israel answered, “There is still one man through whom we can inquire of the LORD, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good for me, but only bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.”
“The king should not say that!” Jehoshaphat replied.
9So the king of Israel called one of his officials and said, “Bring Micaiah son of Imlah at once.”
Michaiah son of Imlah is my favorite person in the Bible……well outside of the Angel of the Lord who is Jesus.
