As readers will with wide eyed reading notice, this blog delves into subjects others fear to tread. The difference here though is every piece of information here is backed by logic, reason, facts and science. An original Star Trek in this Web Trek adventure of more than a feeling.
Several years ago I set upon to know just what was the science behind the legend of the goat boy Pan, centaurs and various other Olympic legend.
Most will dismiss the impossible as impossible as even the Bible mandates that all things will only reproduce after their own kind.
The scientific reason behind this is the fact that the egg of all female produced offspring to be has a specific coating which will only allow the sperm of it's species to penetrate to fertilize.
Close relatives such as the ass and the horse can reproduce, but the end result is nature makes the creature incapable of reproducing.
While King David could ride his royal mules, God forbid this crossbreeding of species.
This blog though exclusively noted, but with no Nobel Prizes granted for scientific discovery, that there are indeed natural chemicals in nature which will break down the natural barriers surrounding a species egg so that that egg can be fertilized by any sperm from any other species, related or not.
Interestingly in my travels around sub Europe, I found that the chemical brew of this cocktail was generated in volcanic activity and springs carrying those deep earth chemical compounds. The same areas which produced the legends of human animal creatures held within their chemical salts the potion to actually create the very animals of legend.
While the Bible does not specify why the Canaanites were destroyed, it is evident by the Moses Laws that a number of sexual sins were being committed creating an inferior gene pool, this included animals.
It is quite possible that in volcanic activity, that the humans who in religious rites of bestiality were drinking polluted water compounds which were breaking down the reproductive barriers and the perverse agrarian peoples started in sexual intercourse with livestock producing the odd Pan or centaur, which if one does the normal life cycle, could very well have lived one hundred years in the sub Europe area, never reproduced, and become a legend among three generations of humans.
Logic would dictate the mentality of these creatures born during volcanic activity would have had near human intelligence, but the characteristics of animal drives. A sort of human beast one would not want to bring home to mother.
In noting that finding, I was curious in looking at a painting which was several hundred years old of another legend of the southern forested regions of Europe in the mythical dragon.
What caught my attention in the painting of the slain dragon was the artist has specific details as a perfect portrait of a dandelion in the corner of the painting, the royals in ermine fur, one was holding a green Pippin apple with a fruitful tree behind them.
The hunting dog in fact was of the that period, complete with the leather spike collar meant to ward off the bear, boar and wolf.
The dragon was being carried, appeared to be around 10 feet as human adults of that period were around five feet tall. It had scales, a row of spurs on it's back, fangs like a crocodile and quite the red tongue, which is indicative of legend of the flicking tongue which would give rise to the fire breathing dragon.
It is possible also this creature in belching smoke might have in cool forest mists like a bull snort and the breath would be mistaken for smoke.
The dragon showed it was killed by a blade thrust into the neck as it's only wound.
What was interesting were the wings of this dragon, in they appeared more like a webbed duck foot with spurs, akin to the Muscovy duck of South America in having claws on it's feet which are very savage as people who have played with them can attest.
It is probable these wings were like ostrich wings in being useless for flight, but because of the spurs would have been of use in fighting or protection as another predator would not be able to bite down on the back of the spine and lung region to kill the dragon, much like a stegosaurus had an armour plating.
It is reaching, but if the Loch Ness Monster is of this warm blooded dinosaur clan in extremely limited supply, then perhaps these dragons of the European forest were very few in number and without reproduction and being killed simply went extinct.
Conditions for the last 1000 years have not been conducive to preserve any of these animals. Take for example the millions of bison in North America who littered the plains in bones not 150 years ago, but one could not find a skeleton of these creatures, nor the millions of other elk, moose, deer or antelope of 100 years ago. Without a bog, tar pit or buried in a sediment, an animal could not be preserved.
We know for fact that less than a thousand years ago a pygmy race of the woolly mammoth still lived on an island in the Arctic as their bones were found due to being in that deep freeze. So creatures deemed legend or extinct for numerous years have indeed survived for a time before disappearing.
It is highly possible the European dragon did indeed exist. Logic concludes it was a cold blooded animal as it seemed to be found in a specific forested, semi arid at times, non mountainous region.
Domremy which was home to Joan D'Arc and the fairies of her tree spoke of a legend of a dragon of their forests. It seems where the charentais melon could survive is the approximate climate the dragons roamed. The German into Slavic forests were too cold, but a specific niche just to the south was the lair of this mythical creature which upon investigation could have been alive in Europe into the 1400 period.
It might have been the miniature ice ages or the influx of the Israelite bands which started colonizing this region which were at war civilizing it from the beasts of the primeval forests in wolf, bear and dragon.
My Grandfather would tell a story of Russians who in their land of the 1800's were in a sleigh going home and were attacked by a pack of European wolves. Their method of survival was to throw one of their children to the pack so the rest could survive.
While a horrid event, in a macabre way it is amusing to ponder how this family calculated quickly who was going to be wolf dinner. It must have been unanimous from those very hard people and probably was a plump female who didn't get the wood gathered or cabbage weeded fast enough.
So just as Ashteroth, the sex goddess priestess with her multiple breasts of Marco Polo was in reality a priestess who slaughtered bulls to fertility and had their testicles hung around her neck giving the modern mind the impression she had a dozen breasts, the portraits of the European dragon of old do ring a bit too true that they apparently did exist, lived in caves or rock clefts in a hibernatory state and probably like the still living Komoto dragon were quite the devastating predator on livestock, beasts of the forest and little humans who were all about five feet and one hundred and forty pounds.
Perhaps one day a European explorer will find one in a cave that the mice and rats have not gnawed into poop. Then once again the oddities which nature produces will confront science in the old legends of demons, centaurs and dragons actually existed when the laws of nature were violated.
