From 1840 AD in the year of our Lord, I desired to share what a hunting dog used to be like, before the AKC, field trials and show dogs ruined every breed.
For those who think "dogs need training", that is as far from the facts as could be. The reason dogs do not mind, do not have any ability and are so hard to handle now is because IDIOTS have ruined all of the breeds, because breeders are stupid and have less intelligence than the animals which were bred by people who actually worked with and hunted with dogs in order to survive.

"We had in Chicago at that time many good dogs, not valued at hundreds of dollars, as in these wealthy times, but well bred, and good workers in the field. In fact, if a dog was well bred it was easy to train him, where grouse were so abundant. There was a large breed of liver-and-white setters, which, from their size, could easily be seen in the long grass. They were called the " Southport" setters, from a town where they originated. Years ago, I read of a hunter who bred a line of Spaniels from a bitch, who just happened to be a calm, close working, and natural hunter. This dog bred an entire line of dogs which were basically self trained and a joy to hunt with.
It is simply a proof that what has happened to dogs around the world is due to the ineptness of breeders, who took the original breeding from people who knew what they were doing, and ruined all of the dogs.
This is one of the greatest crimes in history, as the number of animals lost, or having run off, to being put down, because they could not be handled is all due to these horrid humans who "bred for looks" or "bred for field trials" which produced nothing but head strong, high strung and mentally retarded animals.
What an absolute shame the Southport Setters vanished and what appeared in the 21st century was that foreign agent Obama out of Chicago.
