The crash left officials and families across Europe in shock. Sobbing, grieving families at both Barcelona and Duesseldorf airports were led away by airport workers and crisis counselors.
The reality is this jet's crew was not afforded VFR or visual flight reference, so after making it to cruise altitude of 38,000 feet, it simply started a descent which was not noticed due to clouds, to 6550 feet where it crashed into a mountain. For those who do not know measurements, 5280 feet is a statute mile. On level ground or visual reference, this jet had a mile to deal with error, but the short period of 8 minutes in which this took place, no one had any idea what was taking place.
This is the French Alps and the jet could not fly through them.
For the sexy story, it would be great traffic to have an Obama image blew up this plane by their ISIS terrorists, but this was just an old plane, a computer malfunction, and humans for 8 minutes not paying attention to their jobs.
