A Bird in the Hand

As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.

I had originally hoped that our goslings would be wild, as they flew over us while were walking on the road and gave us a very wide berth..........and then we had to check fence in the pasture and I became educated on goose smarts.

So they were sitting by the stock dam, and they saw us, and watched us. We were walking the fence line, and as we turned the corner 200 yards away they decided to walk over for a talk by the road with us. That would not do, so we started taking them back, and they took wing. made a swing around the pasture, landed on top of us, instead of the yard by the house, and with that we led the geese back to the yard.

It was hot and they puffed as usual, and one gander was hanging back. He is not as wild and as he does not fly around as much, he tires more easily. He was lagging behind, so TL took the rest through the gate and I went to find him.

I could not find him.

I checked the dam, checked the weeds, checked everywhere and he disappeared. Then I spotted Daisy and Belle looking like they were looking at something. Yes it was him, Mr. Smart Boy knew where home was and was taking a short cut.

So I got him on the right path, booted Daisy twice so she would not kill the goose in her exuberance, and with that, Mr. Gander crawled through the wire as he knew exactly where home was.

A few days previous 3 of them decided to light by the barn and could not figure out how to get to the house and were puffing, so this bright boy is pretty astute, as they all are.

They are such know it alls in acting all wild, and then they get tired, and hot, and they follow like puppies, and then it is all heads down still peeping at us like they did when they were little.

I honestly had hoped they were going to be a bit more leery, but after this morning that is not going to happen with us, as they are not going to be fooled. They are free, and after their morning venture, they sit up by the house in the chicken tractor like any Embden. I will simply have to tell our neighbor when he has hunters what is going on, and attempt to keep this group from the goose raised ones which are lighting in the oat field feeding every day, and there is quite a number of them there just before night.
