He was part of the successful effort to remove Republican Edmund J. Davis from the governorship in 1874, after Davis attempted to illegally remain in office after he had lost the election. That year Reagan returned to the Congressional seat he held before the war, serving from March 4, 1875, to March 3, 1887. In 1875, he served in the convention that wrote a new state constitution for Texas. In Congress, he advocated federal regulation of railroads and helped create the Interstate Commerce Commission.
Then there is General Albert Sidney Johnston.
Johnston was initially buried in New Orleans. In 1866, a joint resolution of the Texas Legislature was passed to have his body moved and reinterred at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin. The re-interment occurred in 1867. Forty years later, the state appointed Elisabet Ney to design a monument and sculpture of him to be erected at the grave site
General Johnson was a Texas and American War Hero. Johnston fought to liberate Texas from Mexico, fought to keep liberty safe in America in Mexican American War, and as the finest active soldier in the early part of the Civil War, who was killed in active duty.
Absolutely we can not be honoring someone like this who defends liberty and pays with his life.
Last, there is General Robert Edward Lee.
General Lee was a long time American War Hero, and a personal choice of American Presidents to protect national interests. In post Civil War unification, Citizen Lee was instrumental in peacefully transitioning the Confederate Army to a people who changed muskets into ploughs.
Lee supported Republican President Johnson in reconciliation and offered to be caretaker of the new freed American slaves.
Obviously, America does not want a horrid man like this honored or remembered with a statue, as no one wants unity, peace and equal protection for the Black.
Lee told the Committee, "...every one with whom I associate expresses kind feelings towards the freedmen. They wish to see them get on in the world, and particularly to take up some occupation for a living, and to turn their hands to some work." Lee also expressed his "willingness that blacks should be educated, and ... that it would be better for the blacks and for the whites."

How disgusting it is to reject war as Governor Hogg did, how horrid to protect Americans the way Congressman Reagan did, how deplorable to defend American liberty with your life as General Johnston did and how absolutely repulsive in General Lee to consider the general welfare of freed Blacks.
