I have one which has not baffled me, but ever since I first read it (I read everything), on the way through a KJV Christmas present from my Grampa when I was 8, which was not so much inscrutable as 61 years memorable: "And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar; the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O LORD, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?" (Rev 6: 9-10).
Those people were violently murdered, as the passion in their cry came from the heart, and the sense of injustice they were denied a peaceful death. That's my opinion anyways; who would choose to be a martyr?
Odd part is the Bible does actually answer this question.

All those who save their lives, will lose them. All those who lose their lives, will save them. Only John did not end up executed for the Gospel.
And what is the Gospel? Jesus came teaching and preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom of God.
Jesus did not come teaching news about Himself. He came teaching about the Kingdom of God.
What is the Kingdom of God? It is the Body of Christ in Spirit which is eternal. That is the summation of the Bible, eternal Life or eternal death.
The disciples who were executed were killed for the Gospel of the Kingdom of God and the testimony which they held.
There are numbers of martyrs. Some for themselves, some for satan and some for God.
There are a number of vax martyrs.

I realize Viking that you are asking about Christians, but all of us know that Christians are not what they claim in the majority. The Revelation of Jesus the Christ defines them neither fervent or cold for Christ, just piss warm, so He spews them out of His mouth. Those though do not end up under the altar of God. The ones under the altar are of a group which are given a choice. They can either deny God and become part of a world dictatorship rewarding them or they can refuse for Faith in Christ.
Refusal, is not something born over night. Refusal is a conditioned tempering of character. Like not being bluffed by regime mandates on vaxes or being hunted down by the regime over neo crimes.
Do not make the mistake of thinking this is American centric. Revelation states the Beast is in Europe, a resurrected unHoly Roman Empire. The Vatican slaughtered numbers of Protestants over the centuries.
The Vatican is the whore of Babylon, Babylon is Rome, which is a confederacy of 10 nations in Europe. That does not mean that this is just in Europe, because the United States and those in the West are going to be threshed in Jacob's Trouble. Two different situations, but there is not a limit on the death which is coming.
Vax suicide in being miserable now is not being a martyr for Christ. Those who will be martyred are being formed now, crafted, being moved to a character, in which when presented with the ultimatum, they will choose death rather than deny Christ.
Why they do not bite the throats out of their executioners and go down fighting is not explained. Then neither is the above explained in people being placed into a decision of denying Christ or denying the regime of satan or the adversary of God.
Choices are already made and being made. It is where all of us are moving to.
