As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.
This insight into warfare from the French in the 19th and 20th centuries is a basis for understanding what is appeared in the 21st century.
Meet you on the other side.
Variations in the relative importance attributed to gunfire and movement during the course of history. Fighting in the middle ages. Essentially offensive. The Commons take up arms. Gunpowder makes an appearance. The invention of firearms. Decay of the offensive spirit. Marshal de Saxe does not allow fire by mass formation or salvo. As for the onslaught, it was carried out by the deep column; deep order. was suitable for the Revelution and the Empire. But the Restoration brought back the former king's officers and the mistaken ideas of fire prevailed over movement. The study of 1866 gave the French Army false notions.
The Russian Japanese war. The Japanese always pushed their attacks home against both the front and flanks. At no point did gunfire alone settle the question. "The bayonet was at work all the time", says Soloveiff. The advance was carried out by successful dashes making wonderful use of terrain.

Asymmetrical warfare to three dimensional warfare are the learned process of destruction. What has not been attempted is the 4th dimension, or in that effect, what will space deal as a platform in war.
The United States with advanced technology from the demon seed, appears to rely on this, but global bombing is not global bombing if intervention is added into this warfare. The same is satellite warfare.
Napoleon in his wars, massed troops in the center and attacked. As one can discern, the Japanese utilized movement and terrain as chief factors. Thee entire debate was firepower versus movement. America has tried firepower and without movement on the field, firepower is absorbed by bunkers in the earth.
The question of firepower from space is, if an interdiction would be completed, such as communications. Would an enemy succeed by blinding or making deaf the communications of a base to bombers or satellites. The answer to that is an affirmative. Disruption of signals or elmination of command and control is as prudent in the 21st century as with the 18th century. High ground is supreme, unless some wise person has placed a bomb on that summit, and then explodes it with all the Generals there, as was attacked against Adolf Hitler.
Until ICBM's, satellites and bombers are proven in this 4th dimension, no one knows whether they will be German V rockets of no effect or the doomsday weapons of the tank and battleship. There is always a war in firepower, maneuver and terrain. Each overcomes the other in gradations and in that wars are won and the next one is practiced on those prejudices.
Concentrated firepower on troop formations are always effective. The concentration though must be consistent. If disruption occurs in what the American Pentagon is basing their strategy upon, then the United States will be decapitated, castrated and then obliterated to the stone ages, relying on these technological weapons, which can be neutralized by ground base penetration of command and control.
Attrition is the next major problem for technology linked to expense and production. The mantra of "I have 10 nuclear weapons so I am all powerful, but it takes 15 to win the war, defeats the atomic threat as the adversary has placed it's warfare on the ability to project power in a destroyed infrastructure world".
Nothing has changed in warfare. It is always about disrupting communications. It does not matter if it is supply in Moscow for Napoleon or com links at STRATCOM for the Americans, disrupt the source at the start, and there will be a soon end to the projection of power.
When the computer direction is overcome, what the world will revert to is spears and horses. Perhaps that is why Revelation speaks of Armageddon with horses and spears, and not fighter aircraft, artillery and rifles.
An atomic bomb is worth a million man army. Remove the bomb or the satellite platform, and then the million man army prevails as the trust was in strategic weapons.
