I read memoirs of people in history of the facts and for the tidbits tucked in which are missed by everyone who does not read and is spoon fed everything from Mockingbird.
The following is from General Vernon Walters, while he was still Miltary Attache' in Paris and translating as he did for many presidents as he was for President Richard Nixon. Walters was thorough, he would not take notes, but do hours of recaps of the meetings the President had, in what everyone said.
This in 1970 came to the attention of the historical legacy of President Richard Nixon, when he asked his staff to bring in General Walters to sit on every meeting the President had. I leave this to the General for you to understand the drift of this.
One curious episode occurred in June of 1970. I had returned to Washington to see Dr. Kissinger. While in his office I was in¬ formed that Mr. Haldeman, the President's Chief of Staff, wanted to see me. I could not imagine what he wanted to dis¬ cuss with me. When I saw Haldeman in his office he told me that President Nixon had been greatly impressed by my ability to write extensive memoranda of conversations without taking any notes. He wanted to know if I would be interested in com¬ ing back to the White House and attending all of the Presi¬ dent’s meetings, not just those with foreigners, and recording what had transpired and in a sense be the historian of the Ad¬ ministration. I replied that I was grateful for the offer but I was really not interested in such a job. If ordered to do it I would request retirement. He seemed surprised that I did not jump at the offer. I told Kissinger about this conversation but he just shook his head and made no comment.
I believe that not long after this conversation with Haldeman the tape recorder was installed in the White House.
Vernon Walters did not want to be White House historian, so he declined, and when he declined the two legged recording of President Nixon's meetings, the White House then turned to the automatic tape recordings of the President which is what the operatives used to bring down President Richard Nixon in the Watergate coup.
Seriously, when the situation of what would be Watergate would never have been discussed in front of General Walters and it certainly would not have been discussed in the meetings in how to deal with it. Meaning, General Walters would have recorded policy and political election history, but for things which were being floated, those meetings would never have been attended and there never would have been a recording made.
When one ponders that it was Alexander Butterfield, just as Senator Howard Dean and Chief Counsel, Fred Thompson were shutting down the inquiry, who mentioned the tape recordings which started this Naval Intelligence Coup backed by the CIA, none of that would have happened. Richard Nixon would have finished a brilliant presidency, no Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan would have been President 4 years earlier and the odds are that Bush family would never have wormed their internationalist asses into the American scene.
I have pondered President Nixon in just why the CIA and DIA brought him down, as it was the same group who brought down John Kennedy. I believe President Nixon had a dead man's switch to release information if he was assassinated in who was behind Dallas 1963. The reality is in searching the policies which Richard Nixon was engaged in, he was just as much a problem as John Kennedy was to this group.
Richard Nixon was not on the Tel Aviv leash. Richard Nixon was ending the cash cow of Vietnam,. Richard Nixon was engaged in opening relations with China, which was changing the balance of power for the trillions being wasted on the Cold War with the Soviet Union. The entire looting of America was being ended by Richard Nixon and that is why I believe he was taken out by the Deep State.
It is just one of those bits of information which you can file away in knowing that if General Walters had agreed to the notes of meetings for a Presidential Library, Watergate would have faded away in this horrid coup against thee American People.
