As I’m writing this in the end of September, the Deutsch frigate Hesse is monitoring Russian oil tankers coming out of the Baltic Sea and the frigate Hamburg is involved in a NATO exercise in the Baltic……..to which Russia is buzzing them with fighter jets.
This is what the adults do. The Russians are adept at this in having Cold War training as much as Americans in flipping the bird to each other. No harm, as it is just a way of reminding in a friendly way that we can kill you.

These are not modern naval fighting craft. If you read their guns, these cans are built for firing at things in the air and at things on the water. The Hesse was fond of shooting at and missing American Reaper drones in the Red Sea. Let us just say, the Wolf Pack crews are not on board the Germany navy of today.
The Russians have defined now what is Naval Warfare. Their fleet is in the survival of the fittest state in they have hypersonic missile frigates. This is what war will be. It will be radar, fast strike missiles at distance, on land, sea and air.
Compare to what the Russian frigates bristle with in defense and offense.

The German frigate is on a good day, a ship killer. The Russian frigate on a bad day is a fleet destroyer, port destroyer or nation destroyer. The difference of a shotgun to a howitzer in firepower.
These German ships are worthless. One Russian hypersonic will shatter them. They provide zero offense and are basically a target for Russians. That is why the Russians play with these frigates in they can do absolutely no harm to Russia. It is a reminder of who rules the seas.
The Russian 22350 class which is taking to the seas is Russia redefining warfare. Russia shelved the Big Navy idea of the United States, for a fleet of frigates with this massive firepower. In real warfare, yes these frigates and crews are expendable, but the damage one ship and almost 200 Russians could inflict on an entire nation is astounding. They carry over 100 hypersonics. Put thermonuclear tips on these systems and one Russian frigate could obliterate Britain.
It amazes me the lack of a crash program to refit these NATO cans with pods of hypersonics, to at least make the Russian glance twice at them. This is NATO though. There is no British navy. The French at least floats, but is not a match for Russia and you can see what Germany is displacing space with.
I can predict that when NATO and Russia meets at sea, NATO is going to disappear in 24 hours. Zapping Star Wars at Russian ships is a thing of world war, but once America starts zapping from space, Russia will hit American satellites with space missiles and then the nuclear stuff evolves into this.
This is a foretaste of what is coming.
