Lame Cherry Fridge

As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter......

For the day when the lights go out, I doubt that most of you will have access to a hand dug well with water near enough to the surface to act as a water cooler for your food, I designed this earth cooler.

Earth temperature at 6 feet below ground level is constant in being below 58 degrees. The further north one goes the colder the temperature.

So what you start out with is digging a hole three feet deep which will accomodate a large plastic pipe of at least 2 feet in diameter. If you like, you can do this with a concrete culvert three feet or a metal culvert, to whatever suits you, but the reason for plastic is the pipes can come with plastic caps which is the reason for this.
After you get your hole dug to specs, you get a post hole auger for a six inch plastic water pipe which is of course three more feet deep. This is to take advantage of constant earth temperature.

You should not hit water at this depth, so you drill holes in the 6 inch pipe caps for the bottom and the top, as this is what lets the earth heat or cool rise into your upper chamber which is the 3 foot diameter cylinder, culvert or pipe.
It would be advisable to have a cap to seal up the bottom of this 3 foot cylinder which slips over your 6 inch pipe cap and sealed with pipe sealer.

This is your fridge or root cellar. If covered with more than the plastic cap, it should keep food from freezing in the winter, and in the summer it should keep food at least a day longer than going rancid in the heat.

That is about it.
