All of us have been lied to about December 21st being the shortest day of the year, because I did a simple search for this article for the United States Central Time Zone and in it you will find that days actually are all the same into the end of December being the exact length, and it will not be until January 10th before a real lengthening of days begins.
Here is the copy and paste in the 21st the sun rise at 8:03 and sets at 4:47. As one can note to the 27th of December the sun is actually rising later in the morning by a minute which is offsetting the sun setting later by a few minutes.

So the reality is, for almost 2 and a half weeks, the world has the shortest days, not the shortest day on the solar day of December 21st. The reality is for the days to still be getting shorter and changing dusk and dawn settings reveals a real wobble and a bit of a deceleration of the planet.
