Humpin' It

As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.

The reality is, that most people can not walk far enough to get themselves out of trouble and in that group they always  go too light or too heavy in what they carry.

If you look at the Plainsmen, their tools were a rifle, a knife and flint. The tomahawk was left behind as the plains were barren of trees, but the willow with a blanket or India rubber poncho suddenly became a Wiki up, or small tipi for shelter.

As Colonel Townsend Whelen wrote, "You do not chop wood. You start a fire, drag a log over and burn it in half and keep burning and turning until it is ashes. Prop the log up though so the wood will burn."

This discussion goes now to what it was intended on things you never think of. The Marines in Vietnam carried far too much in their packs.

The basics now are pretty basic in butane lighters work as long as it is not cold outside. They work like a cell phone as a light to see in the dark. Those cell phones will track you, but they are interesting little things as long as you can keep them charged.

What you really need is in addition to all the other shit you will throw away is a small canvas pack. The Marines called it Unit One. It was a medic pack. I am not going to tell you to go buy illegal drugs, but this kit contained morphine or opium for pain. You can put in ibuprofen an brandy in a metal bottle. You  need to carry salt tablets. You will get sick from dehydration and cramp up.

You want wound dressings, and something for sprains, tape and gauze.

Antibiotics and this is something besides a scapel and needles to sow with that you will never have thought of.

You want a large needle or a sharpened to a point spike. Why? Because odds are you are going to have to perform a tracheotomy sometime as people go into allergic shock. You will also need a small breathing tube. They cell plastic and rubber gas lines which are clean about the size of a pen.

I'm not going to tell you how to perform surgery. You can watch the MASH episode where they tell you on the throat where to feed for those two cartilage lines going horizontal and you carefully make the incision there, put in the tube and pack it off with cotton so the person does not choke on their own blood.

It is being prepared for things like that which saves lives. Not having multi use pliers which is not a priorty.

This is another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.
